Omar Hesham Hussein ( ar, عمر هشام; born 29 March 1995) is an Egyptian basketball player for Zamalek. Standing at , he plays as a shooting guard. He is also a member of the Egypt national basketball team. Professional career He has been playing for Zamalek SC since he was a child. Since 2013, Hesham is on the roster for Zamalek. He was also on the team in the 2021 BAL season, where the team won the first-ever BAL championship. In 2021, he won his second Egyptian Super League championship after 2019 championship. National team career Hesham played with the Egypt national basketball team roster for the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup qualifiers. FIBA AfroBasket 2021 was the 30th edition of the FIBA AfroBasket, a men's basketball continental championship of Africa. The tournament was hosted by Rwanda for the first time. It was originally scheduled to take place between 17 and 29 August 2021, but it was moved back a week due to the COVID-19 pandemic, to 24 August to 5 September 2021. The tournament featured 16 teams, with South Sudan debuting at the AfroBasket stage. Tunisia was the defending champion, having won the 2017 tournament and they defended their title with a final win over Ivory Coast, while Senegal won the bronze medal. Host selection In June 2019, FIBA Africa announced that Rwanda hosts the 2021 FIBA AfroBasket outbesting the bids of Senegal, Ivory Coast, and DR Congo. The 2019 FIBA AfroCan was the inaugural edition of the AfroCan, a men's basketball continental competition of Africa. Only players who play for Africa-based basketball clubs are eligible to participate. The tournament was hosted by Mali, from 19 to 28 July 2019. 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup Qualifiers
The 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup qualification was the first World Cup for which teams had to qualify for under the new qualification system. The process determined 31 out of the 32 teams that participated at the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup. Qualified teams Format The continental championships no longer belong to the qualification system for the World Cup. Instead, two rounds of continental qualifying tournaments were held over two years in a home-and-away format. The first round of the qualifiers were held in late 2017 and early 2018.
