Oman Royal Yacht Squadron
The Oman Royal Yacht Squadron is the Sultan of Oman's personal fleet of pleasure craft ranging from the grand Al Said through to the traditional wooden-hulled sailing vessel Zinat al Bihaar. The Squadron is totally independent of the Royal Navy of Oman and the Royal Guard of Oman and is administered by the Diwan of Royal Court Affairs. The Squadron's personnel strength is 150. Bases The Oman Royal Yacht Squadron has two permanent operating bases: * Muscat Harbor adjacent to Fort Mirani: offices, maintenance areas and a slipway * Muttrah Harbor: specifically dedicated moorings at Port Sultan Qaboos (Mina Sultan Qaboos) The port of Raysut (near Salalah) will also be a temporary berthing location for the Squadron's vessels when required. Fulk Al Salamah (2016 Yacht)
''Fulk Al Salamah'' ("Ship of Peace") is a superyacht in service with the Oman Royal Yacht Squadron since its completion in 2016. It was first announced in 2014 as project Saffron. Qaboos Bin Said
Qaboos bin Said Al Said ( ar, قابوس بن سعيد آل سعيد, ; 18 November 1940 – 10 January 2020) was Sultan of Oman from 23 July 1970 until his death in 2020. A fifteenth-generation descendant of the founder of the House of Al Said, he was the longest-serving leader in the Middle East and Arab world at the time of his death, having ruled for almost half a century. The only son of Said bin Taimur, Sultan of Muscat and Oman, Qaboos was educated in Suffolk, England. After graduating from the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, he served briefly in the British Army. He returned to Oman in 1966 and was the subject of considerable restrictions from his father. Baghlah
A baghlah, bagala, bugala or baggala ( ar, بغلة) is a large deep-sea dhow, a traditional Arabic sailing vessel. The name "baghla" means "mule" in the Arabic language. Description The baghlah dhows had a curved prow with a stem-head, an ornately carved stern and quarter galleries. Their average length was with an average weight of 275 tons. Usually they had two masts using two to three lateen sails; supplementary sails like a jib were often added on the bowsprit, as well as on a topmast atop the main mast. As a large and heavy ship the baghlah required a crew of at least 30 sailors. Some had even up to 40. Hardinxveld-Giessendam () is a municipality in the western Netherlands, in the province of South Holland. It is located about 10 km east of Dordrecht, on the river Beneden-Merwede. Vegesack is a northern district of the city of Bremen. Geography ''Vegesack'' is located about north from the centre of Bremen-city at the mouth of the river Lesum, beside the river Weser (). Abutting the district of Vegesack to the northwest is the district of Blumenthal, in the southeast the district of Burglesum. Across the river Weser is the Lower Saxony village Lemwerder, connected to Vegesack by a ferry service. History Vegesack was established long before the 14th century. Bremer Vulkan AG was a prominent German shipbuilding company located at the Weser river in Bremen-Vegesack. It was founded in 1893 and closed in 1997 because of financial problems and mismanagement.
