Omaha South High School
Omaha South High School is an information technology and visual/performing arts magnet school which educates students in grades 9–12. It is located in Omaha, Nebraska, United States. Built in the 1930s, it is one of the largest high school buildings in the state. Students at Omaha South use laptop computers and palmtops as part of their daily classroom activity. The Visual/Performing Arts program offers students the opportunity to create and perform in theatre, music, art, and filmmaking. Community partnerships include Opera Omaha and the Omaha Community Playhouse. Gymnastics
Gymnastics is a type of sport that includes physical exercises requiring balance, strength, flexibility, agility, coordination, dedication and endurance. The movements involved in gymnastics contribute to the development of the arms, legs, shoulders, back, chest, and abdominal muscle groups. Noah Fant
Noah Fant (born November 20, 1997) is an American football tight end for the Seattle Seahawks of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at Iowa, and was drafted by the Denver Broncos in the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft. Early years Before his high school years, Fant attended Morton Magnet Middle school and played football for them. Later, Fant attended and played high school football at Omaha South High School, where he set the record in the state. 86 receptions and 1,700 receiving yards on top of that 15 touchdowns. College career During his sophomore season at Iowa, Fant tied the national record for touchdowns by tight ends with 11, and led the nation in yards per catch, averaging 16.5. John Faiman
John Faiman (June 24, 1941 – June 16, 2012) of Omaha, Nebraska was a University of Nebraska Cornhusker quarterback. A two-time All-American quarterback at Omaha South High School, Faiman played quarterback for the Huskers from 1960 to 1962, starting the first game of 1962 which also was the first game for new head coach Bob Devaney. Faiman was head coach of the Bellevue West High School Thunderbirds in Bellevue, Nebraska. Faiman died on June 16, 2012, of a brain aneurysm at the age of 71. Phil Cahoy Jr. is a retired American gymnast. Career Elite Cahoy was a member of the 1980 Olympic team but did not compete because of the boycott. Marlin Oliver Briscoe (September 10, 1945 – June 27, 2022), nicknamed "the Magician", was an American professional football player who was a quarterback and wide receiver in the American Football League (AFL) and National Football League (NFL). The Poetry Out Loud Recitation Contest was created in 2006 by the National Endowment for the Arts under chairman Dana Gioia and The Poetry Foundation. The contest seeks to promote the art of performing poetry, by awarding cash prizes to participating schools. Louder Than A Bomb
Rooted & Radical Youth Poetry Festival (formerly named Louder Than a Bomb) is an annual youth poetry slam in Chicago every spring. Founded in 2001 by Kevin Coval and Anna West of the nonprofit organization Young Chicago Authors. It is now the largest youth slam in the world with over 1,000 teams competing in 2014. The goal of the slam is to get diverse youth from all around the Chicago area to not only share their stories, but listen to the voices of those from other parts of the city they would otherwise never hear. Participants range in age from middle school to college, with the majority in the high school age bracket. The competing high school slam teams present four individual poems and one group piece performed by four people. Each team competes in two preliminary bouts. Four teams compete each bout.
