''Olympian'' was a large side-wheel inland steamship that operated in the Pacific Northwest and Alaska. ''Olympian'' operated from early 1884 to late 1891 on the Columbia River, Puget Sound, and the Inside Passage of British Columbia and Alaska. Built for the Oregon Railway and Navigation Company, then controlled by Henry Villard, ''Olympian'' and its near twin ''Alaskan'' were known as “Henry Villard's White Elephants.” In 1895 they were said to have been the “most expensive and at the same time the most useless steamers yet appearing in the Northwest.” ''Olympian'' was tried on several routes but was unable to make a profit on any of them. The steamer was tied up for good in 1892, and remained so until 1906, when it was sold to New York interests. ''The Olympian'' is a newspaper based in Olympia, Washington, in the United States. History Olympia was home to the first newspaper to be published in modern-day Washington, ''The Columbian'', which published its first edition on September 11, 1852. ''The Olympian'' started in 1860 as ''The Washington Standard'', a weekly paper. It was founded by John Miller Murphy, and its first issue was released on November 17, 1860. Olympian High School
Olympian High School is a public high school located within the Sweetwater Union High School District in San Diego County, California. The school, with a capacity of 2,500 students, opened in August 2006. It is located in the outskirts of the Otay Ranch area of Chula Vista. History With the site for the school being located only a couple miles from the Olympic Training Center, naming the school Olympic High School seemed a logical choice; but the United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee (USOC) denied the request to use the name "Olympic." Following further negotiations with the USOC, Sweetwater Union High School District was authorized to use the name Olympic Vista High School. The USOC did eventually approve the use of Olympian High School as the name of the school resulting in a quick name change. Olympian City
Olympian City () is a shopping and residential complex built on reclaimed land in Tai Kok Tsui, Kowloon, Hong Kong, next to the MTR Olympic station. It is one of the main shopping and residential areas in West Kowloon. The shopping arcades, Olympian City 1, 2 and 3, were developed by Sino Land while the residential buildings were developed by MTR Corporation and Sino Land. Phases There were three phases in the development of the Olympian City project: *Phase I included Island Harbourview, HSBC Centre, Bank of China Centre and Olympian City 1, which were completed from 1998 to 2000. *Phase II included Park Avenue, Central Park and Olympian City 2, which were completed from 2000 to 2002. *Phase III included The Hermitage and Olympian City 3, which were completed in 2011. ''Olympian'' is the 1995 debut album by British rock band Gene, released on 20 March 1995 by Costermonger Records. It is frequently recognized as one of the crowning achievements of Britpop. The album sound is noted for being influenced by The Smiths, The Jam & The Small Faces. Aesthetically, the album cover is reminiscent of The Smiths' sleeves. The album reached number 8 in the UK albums chart, selling 70,000 copies and gaining a silver disc. The image used for the cover is a still from Ingmar Bergman's ''The Seventh Seal''. Reception Stephen Thomas Erlewine of AllMusic said of the album: "While Gene manages to carve out an identity indebted to the Smiths but not dominated by them, they also fail to produce an album of consistently compelling material - considering that it's a debut album, that's not a fatal flaw. Olympia, Washington
Olympia is the capital of the U.S. state of Washington and the county seat and largest city of Thurston County. It is southwest of the state's most populous city, Seattle, and is a cultural center of the southern Puget Sound region. Volvo Olympian
The Volvo Olympian was a rear-engined 2-axle and 3-axle double decker bus chassis manufactured by Volvo at its Irvine, Scotland factory. The first was built in 1992 and entered production in March 1993, replacing the Leyland Olympian. History The design was based on its predecessor, the Leyland Olympian, but the chassis was modified such that only the chassis design and layout remained, with even the grade of steel for the chassis members being changed, Volvo's standard electrical system was used, as well as standard Volvo steering/"Z cam" braking systems. The early Volvo Olympians were offered with Cummins L10 or Volvo TD102KF engine, coupled to Voith DIWA or ZF Ecomat gearbox. From late 1996, only the 9.6-litre Volvo D10A-245 Euro II engine with electronic diesel control was offered. Leyland Olympian
The Leyland Olympian was a 2-axle and 3-axle double-decker bus chassis manufactured by Leyland between 1980 and 1993. It was the last Leyland bus model in production. Construction The Olympian had the same chassis and running gear as the Leyland Titan integral double deck bus which was ordered in large numbers by London Transport. At the time there was a demand for non-integral vehicles, because operators wished to have the chassis bodied by other manufacturers. Thus Leyland created the B45 project, which was named Olympian, in 1979. This was in many ways an update of the popular Bristol VRT (Bristol Commercial Vehicles merged with Leyland in 1965), with many VR customers choosing Olympians. Later the Olympian also replaced the Leyland Atlantean. The Olympian was unveiled at the 1980 Commercial Motor Show. It was available in two lengths, 9.56m and 10.25m. Leyland-MCW Olympian
The Leyland-MCW Olympian was an integral single-deck bus built by Weymann Coachbuilders of Addlestone for the Metro Cammell Weymann group using Leyland Tiger Cub mechanical units. British Electric Traction subsidiary Western Welsh Omnibus Co took one in 1954, 40 in 1956 and six in 1958. Trinidad Bus Service had four in 1956 (the one pictured in the MCW official picture carries a Tiger Cub badge.) and John Fishwick & Sons took six in 1957. The 1954 show bus and prototype went to Jones, Aberbeeg whilst a single example was exported to Ceylon, the sole left hand drive example was sold to China in 1958, all 60 were single door. The Olympian for China not only differed from the other 59 in being left hand drive, it was fitted with a Pneumocylic semi-automatic gearbox. Initially finished in cream and orange, it made landfall at Hsinkang and was used by the Beijing authority on experimental suburban express routes.
