Olle Rimfors
Olof “Olle” Alfred Rimfors (14 May 1896 – 26 February 1994) was a Swedish ski pioneer, ski instructor, military officer, and sports official. In 1934 he introduced alpine skiing in Sweden together with Sigge Bergman, after studying for a month at the ski school of Hannes Schneider in St. Anton am Arlberg and competing in the FIS Alpine World Championships. Ski career and legacy The early years Olle Rimfors was born as Andersson in the small village of Vretstorp, Örebro County. His father ran the village hotel, a diary, and a sawmill. When he was four years old he got his first pair of skis as a Christmas present, skis that his father had bought in Norway while trading timber, only a few months before his sudden and tragic death in 1901. Skiing was still a rare novelty in the populated parts of Sweden, so Olle became self-taught after persistent practice on the heights where he lived above the village. Sigge Bergman
Sigge Bergman (31 July 1905 – 6 January 2001) was a Swedish sports executive and journalist. He was secretary general of the International Ski Federation (FIS) from 1961 to 1979, and before that the founding chairman of the Technical Committee for Nordic Skiing (1946–1961). In 1934 he introduced alpine skiing in Sweden together with Olle Rimfors after having studied at the ski school of Hannes Schneider in St. Anton. Winner of several alpine competitions in Sweden in the thirties. He held several key positions in the Swedish Ski Association from 1939 to 1976, among these President (1952–1961). He was also a chairman of the Swedish National Olympic Committee, twice appointed chef de mission at the Olympic Games (Munich 1972 and Montreal 1976). As a leader, technical official or journalist, he attended 24 Olympic Games between 1936 and 1994. Storlien
Storlien is a village and ski resort located in Åre municipality in Jämtland, Sweden, two kilometres from the Swedish-Norwegian border. The primary bases of the settlement are tourism and outdoor life – alpine skiing, snowmobiling, cross-country skiing, hunting, fishing and hiking. During the 2000s, retail sales to customers from Norway become important, and most of the tourists in Storlien are Norwegians. Hamrafjället Nature Reserve
Hamrafjället Nature Reserve ( sv, Hamrafjällets naturreservat) is a nature reserve encompassing parts of the fell Hamrafjället in Jämtland County in western Sweden. It is part of the EU-wide Natura 2000-network. Description and history The nature reserve consists of three main areas: the highest part is bare mountain, a lower part is dominated by the treeline, formed by arctic downy birch, and old pastures and meadows, and thirdly a wetland area. Parts of the mountain slope are very steep and form important nesting grounds for some species of birds; the access to these areas is restricted during the summer. The flora in parts of the nature reserve is exceptionally rich for this part of the country, partially because it is a location where northern species overlap with the habitat of more southern species. Funäsdalen
Funäsdalen is a village located in Härjedalen Municipality, Jämtland County, Sweden with 890 inhabitants in 2010. Funäsdalen is situated in western Härjedalen near the Norwegian border. Funäsdalen is the site of Härjedalens Fjällmuseum which provides exhibits relating to mountain farming and Sami culture. Funäsdalen has long been a gathering place for Sámi people. The ''Fédération internationale de ski et de snowboard'' (FIS; en, International Ski and Snowboard Federation) is the highest international governing body for skiing and snowboarding. The Jämtland Ranger Corps ( sv, Jämtlands fältjägarkår, JFK), is a Swedish Army infantry unit that operated in various forms the years 1670–1983, 1990–1997, 2000–2005 and 2021–present. The unit was located in Östersund Garrison in Östersund. History The regiment had its origin in ''Ångermanlands, Medelpads och Jämtlands regemente'' raised in 1646 in the newly conquered province Jämtland, although the men were mostly recruited in the old Swedish provinces of Ångermanland and Medelpad.
