Olivier Messiaen
Olivier Eugène Prosper Charles Messiaen (, ; ; 10 December 1908 – 27 April 1992) was a French composer, organist, and ornithologist who was one of the major composers of the 20th century. His music is rhythmically complex; harmonically and melodically he employs a system he called ''modes of limited transposition'', which he abstracted from the systems of material generated by his early compositions and improvisations. He wrote music for chamber ensembles and orchestra, vocal music, as well as for solo organ and piano, and also experimented with the use of novel electronic instruments developed in Europe during his lifetime. Messiaen entered the Paris Conservatoire at the age of 11 and studied with Paul Dukas, Maurice Emmanuel, Charles-Marie Widor and Marcel Dupré, among others. Qin Chuan
Qin Chuan (), also known as Chuan Qin, is a Chinese pianist and a professor at School of Arts, Shandong University. Biography Born in Nanjing, Qin started learning the piano at the age of five, and attended the Shanghai Conservatory of Music from 1988 to 1994. He subsequently went to the United States to pursue his music studies at the Juilliard School of Music where he obtained his Bachelor and Master's degrees, as well as a Doctorate of Music Arts. Qin Chuan is known for his performance of Olivier Messiaen's music. Having heard Qin perform '' Réveil des oiseaux'' with Myung-Whun Chung from memory, Messiaen's widow, Yvonne Loriod, selected him as the winner of the Messiaen Prize in Paris. Mikhail Rudy ( rus, Михаил Рудый: born April 3, 1953), is an Uzbekistan-born French pianist, who has won several awards for his recordings including the Grand Prix du disque. Life and career Rudy was born in Tashkent, Uzbekistan where his family had been deported by the Soviet regime. His grandparents were imprisoned in concentration camps. His family moved from Tashkent to Siberia, then to a small village near Voronezh until they were finally "rehabilitated" in Stalino (Donetsk), in eastern Ukraine. Momo Kodama
is a Japanese classical pianist. She was born in Osaka but grew up in Europe, attending the Conservatoire de Paris with older sister Mari. She made her debut in 1991 with the Berkeley Symphony Orchestra and was the youngest winner of the International Piano Competition in Munich at age 19. Since then she has performed with various symphonic orchestras and at cultural festivals in Europe and Latin America and has released a number of recordings. Nguyễn Thiên Đạo (3 July 1940 – 20 November 2015) was a Vietnamese-French composer who worked in contemporary classical music. He was born in Hanoi, French Indochina, and came to France in 1953, where he studied composition with Olivier Messiaen. He lived in Paris, France. Marie-Françoise Bucquet (28 October 1937 – 15 August 2018) was a French pianist. Biography Born in Montivilliers, Marie-Françoise Bucquet began her studies at the Vienna Music Academy and continued this tradition by further studies with Central European musicians: the eminent pianist Wilhelm Kempff and later another eminent pianist, Alfred Brendel.
