Olivia Lewis (netball)
Olivia Lewis (born 29 April 1999) is an Australian netball player in the Suncorp Super Netball league, playing for the Melbourne Mavericks Lewis was born in Subiaco, Western Australia, Subiaco and raised in Wellard WA and was signed by the West Coast Fever ahead of the 2019 Suncorp Super Netball season, 2019 season. The defender grew up playing netball for the Rockingham District Netball Association before moving to Coastal Sharks academy in Western Australia. A prodigious junior talent saw her win national MVP awards at under 17 and 19 levels. Prior to being picked up by the Fever, she was MVP for the club's reserves team, the Western Sting in the Australian Netball League, and was a part of their maiden ANL premiership in 2017. Playing in the Western Australian Netball league, Olivia was awarded the Jill McIntosh Medal, Jill McIntosh medal as the Most Valuable player for the 2018 season. Subiaco (known colloquially as Subi) is an inner-Western suburbs (Perth), western suburb of Perth, the capital of Western Australia. The West Australian Netball League, also referred to as the WA Netball League, is a state netball league featuring teams from Western Australia. It is organised by Netball Western Australia. On a national level, the league is effectively a third level league, below Suncorp Super Netball and the Australian Netball League. It was originally known as the Gold Netball League. During the later 2000s and early 2010s, it was known as the Smarter than Smoking Netball League. Since 2019 it has been known as the Gold Industry Group WANL. Netball is a ball sport played on a court by two teams of seven players. It is among a rare number of sports which have been created exclusively for female competitors. The sport is played on indoor and outdoor netball courts and is specifically played in schools. Netball is most popularly played in Commonwealth nations. A common misunderstanding of the sport's origins has resulted in the mistaken belief that netball was created to prevent women from playing basketball. However, the sport is the result of Clara Baer's misinterpretation of its rules.
