Olivia Aroha Giles
Olivia Aroha Giles is a contemporary New Zealand Māori writer, artist, and designer, specialising in art textiles, design, illustration and writing. She writes children's books, novels, and short stories. Early life Giles descends from Ngāti Raukawa, Ngāti Kahungunu, Te Ati Awa, Te Whānau-ā-Apanui, Te Atihaunui-ā-Paparangi and Ngāti Hinekawa, as well as being of Scottish and English descent. In 2010 Olivia graduated from Whitireia New Zealand with a Bachelor of Applied Arts in Textiles. Writing career Giles released her first book in 2006 through Learning Media titled ''Two Homes''. This popular children's book has been distributed through a variety of New Zealand Primary schools and was also re-released in 2008 as an Audiobook. Olivia was also short listed for Huia Publishers prestigious 'Pikihuia Short Story Awards' and was also published in their collection of 18 finalists. Whitireia New Zealand
Whitireia New Zealand, previously called Whitireia Community Polytechnic and Parumoana Community College (Māori: Te Kura Matatini o Whitireia), is a government-owned and funded tertiary education institute in New Zealand. It was established in 1986 on the shores of Porirua Harbour and today has 7,500 students, with campuses in Auckland, Wellington, Petone and Porirua. Pataka Art + Museum
Pātaka Art + Museum is a municipal museum and art gallery of Porirua City, New Zealand. Te Marae o Te Umu Kai o Hau is the name of the building where Pātaka Museum + Art is located and opened in 1998. It also houses the Porirua City Library, Cafe Kaizen and a Japanese Garden. Porirua, ( mi, Pari-ā-Rua) a city in the Wellington Region of the North Island of New Zealand, is one of the four cities that constitute the Wellington metropolitan area. The name 'Porirua' is a corruption of 'Pari-rua', meaning "the tide sweeping up both reaches". It almost completely surrounds Porirua Harbour at the southern end of the Kapiti Coast. Huia Publishers (HUIA) is a book publishing company based in Wellington, New Zealand established in 1991. HUIA publish material in Māori language and English for adults and children. HUIA was founded by Robyn Rangihuia Bargh (CNZM) and her husband Brian Bargh.
