Oliver Nicolls
General Oliver Nicolls (c.1740 – 1829) was a British Army officer. Military career Nicolls was commissioned into the 1st Regiment of Foot in November 1756.Richard Cannon''Historical record of the Life Guards containing an account of the formation of the corps in the year 1660 and of its subsequent services to 1835'', p. 135/ref> He became Quartermaster-General in the West Indies in 1794, in which capacity he subdued a rebellion in Grenada. He became Commander-in-chief of the Bombay Army on 22 January 1801 retiring from that post in 1808 to become a member of the Board of Inquiry into the Convention of Sintra under which the defeated French were allowed to evacuate their troops from Portugal without further conflict. He went on to serve as Governor of the Island of Anholt in 1813. Edward Finch (British Army Officer)
General the Hon. Edward Finch (26 April 1756 – 27 October 1843) was a British Army general and a member of parliament. He was the fifth son of Heneage Finch, 3rd Earl of Aylesford and entered Westminster School in 1768 and Trinity College, Cambridge in 1773. He was awarded a B.A. in 1777. He joined the British Army as a cornet in the 11th Dragoons in 1778, soon transferring to the 20th Light Dragoons, and the following year was promoted lieutenant into the 87th Regiment of Foot. He served in the West Indies and North America before being promoted a captain in the Coldstream Guards in 1783. In May 1789 he was elected MP for Cambridge (UK Parliament constituency), Cambridge, a seat he held continuously until 1819. In 1792 he was promoted captain and lieutenant-colonel and went with the Guards Brigade as part of the 1793 Flanders Campaign under General Lake. Sir David Baird, 1st Baronet
General Sir David Baird, 1st Baronet, of Newbyth, GCB (6 December 1757 – 18 August 1829) was a British Army officer. Military career He was born at Newbyth House in Haddingtonshire, Scotland, the son of an Edinburgh merchant family, and entered the British Army in 1772. He was sent to India in 1779 with the 73rd (afterwards 71st) Highlanders, in which he was a captain. Immediately on his arrival, Baird was attached to the force commanded by Sir Hector Munro, which was sent forward to assist the detachment of Colonel Baillie, threatened by Hyder Ali. In the action which followed the whole force was destroyed, and Baird, severely wounded, fell into the hands of the Mysore chief. The prisoners remained captive for over four years. Baird's mother, on hearing that her son and other prisoners were in fetters, is said to have remarked, "God help the chiel chained to our Davie." General Sir William Anson, 1st Baronet, (13 August 1772 – 13 January 1847) was a British officer from the Anson family. He became a general in the British Army and noted for his service in Peninsular War. Early life William Anson was born on 13 August 1772, the third son of George Anson and Mary Vernon; until 1773 his family went by the surname of Adams. His maternal grandfather was Lord Vernon, and his brothers included the future Lord Anson and General Sir George Anson. He spent his childhood at the family home of Shugborough Hall in Staffordshire. General John Thomas de Burgh, 13th and 1st Earl of Clanricarde PC (Ire) (; ; ; ; 22 September 1744 – 27 July 1808), styled The Honourable until 1797, was an Irish peer and soldier who was Governor of County Galway (1798–1808) and a member of the Privy Council of Ireland (1801). Career De Burgh raised the 88th Regiment of Foot, later renamed the Connaught Rangers, in 1793. Having commanded this regiment, he became Colonel of the 66th (Berkshire) Regiment of Foot (1794–1808) and later Governor of Hull (1801–1808). In 1796, he was in command in Corsica under Sir Gilbert Elliot-Murray-Kynynmound as Viceroy of the Anglo-Corsican Kingdom and, with Commodore Horatio Nelson, planned an attack to re-take Leghorn (Livorno) in Tuscany.
