Oliver G. Traphagen House
The Oliver G. Traphagen House, also known as Redstone, is a historic residential building in Duluth, Minnesota, United States. Built in 1892 as a duplex, it was designed and inhabited by architect Oliver G. Traphagen (1854–1932). The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1975 for its local significance in the theme of architecture. It was nominated for its association with Traphagen, recognized together with his business partner Francis W. Fitzpatrick as Duluth's leading architects of the late 19th century. In 2014 the house was heavily damaged by arson. Description The Traphagen House is a three-story Victorian mansion. The main façade is built of local red sandstone and features ornate carving and window dressing, along with towers and unusual dormers. The three other faces of the building are clad in red brick. Chester Adgate Congdon (June 12, 1853 – November 21, 1916), was a lawyer and capitalist. Congdon was born in Rochester, New York, on June 12, 1853, his parents being Sylvester Laurentius and Laura Jane () Congdon. The Congdon name is indelibly linked with the Glensheen Historic Estate in Duluth, Minnesota. Early life On his paternal side he is sixth in descent from James Congdon, a Quaker from England who settled in Rhode Island in the first half of the 17th century. The DeWitt–Seitz Building is a historic commercial building in the Canal Park neighborhood of Duluth, Minnesota, United States. The eight-story building was constructed in 1909 for the DeWitt–Seitz Company, a furniture jobber and mattress manufacturer. With It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places for its local significance in the themes of architecture, commerce, and industry.
