Oliver C. Wiley
Oliver Cicero Wiley (January 30, 1851 – October 18, 1917) was an American businessman, academic administrator, and politician who served briefly as a U.S. Representative from Alabama from 1908 to 1908. He was the brother of Ariosto Appling Wiley, whom Oliver succeeded in office. Early life and education The youngest child of Cornelia Appling and James McCaleb Wiley, Oliver C. Wiley was born in Troy, Alabama in 1851. His father was a physician and lawyer who ascended to the position of circuit court judge. Oliver had four siblings, including his brother, Ariosto. Oliver was educated at primary school in Troy, but the onset of the Civil War limited his options for higher education. He attended Bryant and Stratton’s business college in Nashville, Tennessee before joining a business partnership in a mercantile venture. Montgomery, Alabama
Montgomery is the capital city of the U.S. state of Alabama and the county seat of Montgomery County. Troy University
Troy University is a public university in Troy, Alabama. It was founded in 1887 as Troy State Normal School within the Alabama State University System, and is now the flagship university of the Troy University System. Troy University is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACS) to award associate, baccalaureate, master's, education specialist, and doctoral degrees. In August 2005, Troy State University, Montgomery; Troy State University, Phenix City; Troy State University, Dothan; and Troy State University (main campus) all merged under one accreditation to become Troy University. Stanley Hubert Dent
Stanley Hubert Dent Jr. (August 16, 1869 – October 6, 1938) was a U.S. Representative from Alabama. Born in Eufaula, Alabama, Dent attended the common schools, and was graduated from Southern University (later known as Birmingham Southern College), Greensboro, Alabama, in 1886. He was graduated from the University of Virginia Law School at Charlottesville in 1889. He was admitted to the bar the same year and practiced in Eufaula, Alabama, until 1899. He moved to Montgomery, Alabama, in 1899 and continued the practice of his profession. He served as delegate to the State constitutional convention in 1901. He served as prosecuting attorney for Montgomery County in 1902–1909. He served as delegate to the Democratic National Convention in 1908. Dent was elected as a Democrat to the Sixty-first and to the five succeeding Congresses (March 4, 1909 – March 3, 1921). Pike County is located in the U.S. state of Alabama. As of the 2020 census the population was 33,009. Its county seat is Troy. Its name is in honor of General Zebulon Pike, of New Jersey, an explorer who led an expedition to southern Colorado and discovered Pikes Peak in 1806.
