The Donetsk Oblast ( ukr, Донецька область, Donetska oblast, ), also referred to as Donechchyna ( ukr, Донеччина, links=no), is an oblast of eastern Ukraine. Volnovakha Raion ( uk, Волноваський район, ) is one of the 18 administrative raions (a ''district'') of Donetsk Oblast, located in southeastern Ukraine. The administrative center of the district is located in the city of Volnovakha. A hromada ( uk, територіальна громада, lit=territorial community, translit=terytorialna hromada) is a basic unit of administrative division in Ukraine, similar to a municipality. Blahodatne ( uk, Благодатне) is an urban-type settlement in Volnovakha Raion of Donetsk Oblast in Ukraine. It belongs to Olhynka settlement hromada, one of the hromadas of Ukraine. Population: It has been controlled by Russia since february. History Blagodatne was founded in 1840. During the Ukrainian War of Independence, fierce battles took place near the settlement between Bolshevik forces and the Volunteer Army led by Pyotr Wrangel. In 1853, local residents built the first wooden temple in dedication to the Annunciation of the Virgin Mary. The church served the community until it was closed by the Soviet regime in 1961, and converted into a dance club and library. The community fought to keep the church open, and it was finally restored to a working condition in the 1990s, after the dawn of Ukrainian independence. Novohnativka ( uk, Новогнатівка; russian: link=no, Новогнатовка) is a village in Volnovakha Raion (district) in Donetsk Oblast of eastern Ukraine, at 53 km SSW from the centre of Donetsk city. Novohnativka is administratively subordinated to village council of Mykolaivka. Russo-Ukrainian War During the War in Donbass, in February 2016, an attempt was made by two groups of pro-Russian scouts to attack Ukrainian forces from the direction of Dokuchaievsk along the Novotroitske-Mykolaivka–Novohnativka stretch.
