Oleh Anatolyevich Taran ( uk, Олег Анатолійович Таран; born 11 January 1960) is a Ukrainian footballer coach and former player. He was a prolific forward who possessed a powerful shot and was capable of dribbling quickly and precisely. In 1983, he was named the Ukrainian Footballer of the Year. Pokrov ( ), formerly Ordzhonikidze () is a small city and mining town in Nikopol Raion, Dnipropetrovsk Oblast of central Ukraine. It hosts the administration of Pokrov urban hromada, one of the hromadas of Ukraine. The Ukrainian Cup ( uk, Кубок України) is an association football national knockout cup competition run by the Ukrainian Association of Football. The competition is conducted almost exclusively among professional clubs. Since the 2003–04 season, the Cup winner qualifies to play the Ukrainian Premier League winner for the Ukrainian Super Cup. Current format The format of this competition consists of two stages: a qualification stage with two rounds followed by the main event (four rounds and the final game). The competition involves all professional clubs plus the two finalists of the Ukrainian Amateur Cup (since 2011). The Soviet Top League, known after 1970 as the Higher League (russian: Чемпионат СССР по футболу: Высшая лига), served as the top division of Soviet Union football from 1936 until 1991. The professional top level of football competition among clubs was established in 1936 on proposition of Nikolai Starostin and was approved by the All-Union Council of Physical Culture. Originally it was named Group A. After World War II it became known as the First Group. In 1950, after another reform of football in the Soviet Union, the First Group was replaced with Class A. The Ukrainian Footballer of the Year is an annual journalist award given by the ''Ukrainskiy Football'' ("Ukrainian Football") newspaper to the best professional Ukrainian footballer since 1991. The Ukrainian Footballer of the Year award is given to native Ukrainians.
