Old Wilkes County Jail
Old Wilkes County Jail is a historic jail located at the Wilkes Heritage Museum in Wilkesboro, Wilkes County, North Carolina. It was built in 1858, and is a two-story, rectangular brick building with a low hipped roof. The jail retains much of its original hardware including strap hinges and several early locks. Wilkesboro is a town in and the county seat of Wilkes County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 3,687 at the 2020 census. The town is located along the south bank of the Yadkin River, directly opposite the town of North Wilkesboro. Wilkesboro is a Small Town Main Street community and has recently revitalized its historic downtown to include the Carolina West Wireless Community Commons, Wilkes Communications Pavilion, Heritage Square and Splash Pad. The Wilkes County Courthouse in Wilkesboro, North Carolina was designed by Wheeler, Runge & Dickey in Classical Revival and Beaux Arts style. It was built in 1903.
