The Old U.S. Post Office in Philadelphia, Mississippi was built in 1936. It is a structure of historical significance, being one of 32 federal post offices built in Mississippi during the Great Depression as part of U.S. President Franklin Roosevelt's New Deal The New Deal was a series of programs, public work projects, financial reforms, and regulations enacted by President Franklin D. Roosevelt in the United States between 1933 and 1939. Major federal programs agencies included the Civilian Cons ... public buildings program. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on June 30, 1995. The building currently houses the Philadelphia police department. Downtown Corinth Historic District
The Downtown Corinth Historic District in Corinth, Mississippi is a historic district. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1993, at which time it included the majority of Corinth's downtown commercial buildings. The street plan of the area was laid out in 1855 by surveyors Houston Mitchell (1824-1877) and Hamilton Mask, who intended for the city to be named "Cross City". The plan conformed to the rights-of-way granted to the Memphis & Charleston Railroad and the Mobile and Ohio Railroad lines; the downtown area evolved from c.1855 to c.1941. with (see photo captions pages 67-69 of text document) It includes 88 contributing buildings, 2 contributing sites, and a contributing object.
