Old Salem, Texas
Old Salem is an unincorporated community in Bowie County, in the U.S. state of Texas. According to the Handbook of Texas, the community had a population of 50 in 2000. It is located within the Texarkana metropolitan area. History The area in what is known as Old Salem today was said to have first been settled by farming families during the second half of the 19th century. The oldest graves in the community's cemetery, located next to the local Baptist church, date back to 1880. There were several scattered farms and homes in the community in the 1930s. It then grew to have cattle operations during the rest of the 20th century. Its population was 50 in 2000. Geography Old Salem is located near the intersection of Interstate 30 and Farm to Market Road 1840, southwest of New Boston and west of Texarkana in west-central Bowie County. Idabel is a city in and county seat of McCurtain County, Oklahoma, United States. The population was 7,010 at the 2010 census. It is located in the southeast corner of Oklahoma, a tourist area known as Choctaw Country. History Idabel was established in 1902 by the Arkansas and Choctaw Railway (later part of the St. Louis and San Francisco Railway, the line now being operated by the Kiamichi Railroad). The city was first named Purnell, after Isaac Purnell, a railroad official. When postal officials rejected that designation, the name was changed to Mitchell, honoring another railroad company officer. New Boston, Texas
New Boston is a city in Bowie County, Texas, Bowie County, Texas, United States. Boston was named for an early storekeeper in the settlement, W.J. Boston. The coming of the railroads led to the location of two more Bostons. A depot was built about four miles north of Boston and was named New Boston. The original Boston then became Old Boston.
