Old Police Academy
The Old Police Academy (abbreviation: OPA; formerly known as the Police Academy (alternate: TRACOM), Police Training School and Police Depot) is a defunct police training school-facility located at 1, Mount Pleasant Road, off Thomson Road in Singapore. It was the primary training institute for the Singapore Police Force's Training Command until December 2005, when most of the school's functions moved to the new Home Team Academy in Choa Chu Kang. Today, it is being gradually demolished to make way for the upcoming Mount Pleasant MRT station as well as for future housing redevelopment and land repurposing. Mount Pleasant Road, Singapore
The Heritage Roads scheme was implemented in 2001 by the Singapore government to identify and protect roads whereby there are lush road-side trees, often so dense that they create "green walls" and even "green tunnels". Concerns that rapid urban development will result in the removal of these trees especially due to the widening or realignment of these roads, the authorities identified 5 roads from a list of 55 suggested by the National Parks Board. The remaining roads were placed on a watchlist to be closely monitored, and may be added to the scheme later. Thomson Road, Singapore
Thomson Road is a major trunk road linking Singapore's central business district with the northern suburban areas of the country. The road is one of the longest in Singapore, starting from Novena in the south towards MacRitchie Reservoir, before continuing northwards as Upper Thomson Road towards Yishun and Sembawang. Etymology The road was named after John Turnbull Thomson, who was the Government Surveyor and Chief Engineer of the Straits Settlements from 1841 to 1853. History Thomson Road was constructed to connect the city centre to the airport and naval base at Seletar. The road was originally known as Thomson Road, after which the name was Seletar Road. Choa Chu Kang, alternatively spelt as Chua Chu Kang and often abbreviated as CCK, is a planning area and residential town located at the north-westernmost point of the West Region of Singapore. Mount Pleasant MRT Station
Mount Pleasant MRT station is a non-operational underground Mass Rapid Transit station on the Thomson-East Coast Line in Novena, Singapore. Located within the former grounds of Old Police Academy, the station is planned to serve future housing developments in the area. First announced in August 2012 as part of the Thomson line (TSL), the station was constructed as part of TEL Phase 3 (TEL3) with the merger of the TSL and the Eastern Region line (ERL). Initially slated to open along with the rest of the TEL3 stations, it was announced in November 2021 that the station would only open when its surrounding areas are further developed, even though it has been structurally completed. Lim Kim San
Lim Kim San ( zh, c=林金山, p=Lín Jīnshān; 30 November 1916 – 20 July 2006) was a Singaporean politician who served as a Cabinet minister between 1965 and 1981. He was credited for leading a successful public housing programme in the country during the early 1960s, which eased the acute housing shortage problem at that time. Early life and education Born in 1916 in Singapore, Lim was the eldest of six children. He was educated at Oldham Hall School and Anglo-Chinese School before graduating from Raffles College in 1939 with a Diploma in Arts in economics. During the Japanese occupation, Lim was one of the many tortured on suspicion of being pro-communist and pro-British.
