Old Colony Building (Chicago)
The Arc at Old Colony (Old Colony Building until 2015) is a 17-story landmark building in the Chicago Loop Community areas of Chicago, community area of Chicago, Illinois. Designed by the architectural firm Holabird & Roche in 1893–94, it stands at approximately 215 feet (65.5 m) and was the tallest building in Chicago at the time it was built. The building was designated a Chicago Landmark on July 7, 1978. Over the years, the firm has changed its name several times and adapted to the architectural style then current — from Chicago School to Art Deco to Modern Architecture to Sustainable Architecture. Chicago Landmark is a designation by the Mayor and the City Council of Chicago for historic sites in Chicago, Illinois, United States. Listed sites are selected after meeting a combination of criteria, including historical, economic, architectural, artistic, cultural, and social values. The Harold Washington Library Center is the central library for the Chicago Public Library System. It is located just south of the Loop 'L', at 400 S.
