Oktyabr', Jalal-Abad Region
Oktyabr' ( ky, Октябрь) is a big village in Jalal-Abad Region of Kyrgyzstan. It is part of the Suzak District. Its population was 10,665 in 2021. History The village was established in summer 1905. In spring 1906 several tens of migrant families from Ukraine, Siberia and Don settled down in the area. As an aryk for drinking and irrigation was constructed from Kök-Janggak, a new village was originally linked with and named after this settlement. On 26 September 1910 the village that grew up to 149 households was renamed to Ivanovka for one of the first migrants. In autumn 2010 the land surveyors documented a settlement with irrigated land and pastures including four streets, shop, school and church. In 1923 three new streets were documented. In February 1923 the settlement was renamed to Octyabr' after the October Revolution. At that time it was populated mostly by Russians and Ukrainians. Jalal-Abad Region
Jalal-Abad Region ( ky, Жалал-Абад облусу, Jalal-Abad oblusu; russian: Джалал-Абадская область, Dzhalal-Abadskaya oblast) is a region (''oblast'') of Kyrgyzstan. Its capital is the city of the same name, Jalal-Abad. It is surrounded by (clockwise from the north) Talas Region, Chüy Region, Naryn Region, Osh Region, and Uzbekistan. Jalal-Abad Region was established on 21 November 1939. On 27 January 1959 it became a part of Osh Region, but regained its old status as a region on 14 December 1990. Its total area is . Don (river)
The Don ( rus, Дон, p=don) is the fifth-longest river in Europe. Flowing from Central Russia to the Sea of Azov in Southern Russia, it is one of Russia's largest rivers and played an important role for traders from the Byzantine Empire. Kök-Janggak ( ky, Көк-жаңгак, meaning "green walnut" in Kyrgyz and Uzbek, russian: Кок-Янгак ''Kok-Yangak'') is a city in Jalal-Abad Region in western Kyrgyzstan, located at a distance of about 29 km from the regional centre city Jalal-Abad. Its population was 12,117 in 2021. It is a city of regional significance within the Suzak District. History Kök-Janggak originated as a coal-mining settlement in 1910. The upper strata of coal of the Kok-Yangak coal deposit were mined on a small scale until the October Revolution. Jalal-Abad (also spelled Dzhalal-Abad, Djalal-Abat, Jalalabat; ky, Жалал-Aбат, ''Calal-Abat/Jalal-Abat'', جالال-ابات, ) is the administrative and economic centre of Jalal-Abad Region in southwestern Kyrgyzstan.
