Oksefjorden (Agder)
Oksefjorden is a fjord in Agder county, Norway. The long fjord runs between the islands of Borøya and Tverrdalsøya along the border of Tvedestrand and Arendal municipalities. At the north end of the fjord, it joins the Tvedestrandfjorden and the Eikelandsfjorden and at the south end it flows into the Skagerrak. The village of Sandvika lies along the northern shore of the fjord (on Borøya) and the village of Holmesund (on Tverrdalsøya). Agder
Agder is a county (''fylke'') and traditional region in the southern part of Norway. The county was established on 1 January 2020, when the old Vest-Agder and Aust-Agder counties were merged. Since the early 1900s, the term Sørlandet ("south country, south land, southland") has been commonly used for this region, sometimes with the inclusion of neighbouring Rogaland. Before that time, the area was considered a part of Western Norway. The area was a medieval petty kingdom, and after Norway's unification became known as ''Egdafylki'' and later ''Agdesiden'', a county within the kingdom of Norway. The name Agder was not used after 1662, when the area was split into smaller governmental units called Nedenæs, Råbyggelaget, Lister, and Mandal. The name was resurrected in 1919 when two counties of Norway that roughly corresponded to the old Agdesiden county were renamed Aust-Agder (East Agder) and Vest-Agder (West Agder). In physical geography, a fjord or fiord () is a long, narrow inlet with steep sides or cliffs, created by a glacier. Skagerrak
The Skagerrak (, , ) is a strait running between the Jutland peninsula of Denmark, the southeast coast of Norway and the west coast of Sweden, connecting the North Sea and the Kattegat sea area through the Danish Straits to the Baltic Sea. The Skagerrak contains some of the busiest shipping routes in the world, with vessels from every corner of the globe. It also supports an intensive fishing industry. Tverrdalsøya
Tverrdalsøya is an island in Arendal municipality in Agder county, Norway. The island lies between the Oksefjorden, Eikelandsfjorden, and Kilsundet straits just off the mainland coast at the entrance to the Tvedestrandsfjorden which leads north to the town of Tvedestrand. The island of Flostaøya lies immediately to the south and the island of Borøy lies immediately to the east. The main population centre on the island is the village of Kilsund at the southern end of the island. Historically, the island was a part of the municipality of Dypvåg until 1902 when it was made a part of the new municipality of Flosta. In 1962, it became a part of the new municipality of Moland and then in 1992 it became part of the municipality of Arendal. Tvedestrand
is municipality in Agder county, Norway. It is located in the traditional district of Sørlandet. The administrative center is the town of Tvedestrand. There are many villages in the municipality including Dypvåg, Fiane, Gjeving, Gødderstad, Grønland, Kilen, Klåholmen, Krokvåg, Laget, Lyngør, Nesgrenda, Østerå, Sagesund, Sandvika, and Songe. The town of Tvedestrand has a white-painted town center with irregular streets climbing steep hills around the harbor. The natural environment of the area makes it a tourist destination. The municipality includes numerous islands, which makes it popular in the summer for boaters. The number of people in the municipality practically doubles in the summer, due to vacationers. Sandvika is a village in Tvedestrand municipality in Agder county, Norway. The village is located on the southern coast of the island of Borøya, along the Oksefjorden, about south of the town of Tvedestrand.
