Okehocking Historic District
Okehocking Historic District, also known as the Okehocking Indian Land Grant Historic District, is a national historic district in Willistown Township, Chester County, Pennsylvania. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1993. Description and history The historic district encompasses 69 contributing buildings, 5 contributing sites, 2 contributing structures, and 1 contributing object in a rural area near Media. A majority of the buildings were built before 1845. The district features an assortment of 18th-century and 19th-century farmhouses and related outbuildings located on a 500-acre Indian land grant by William Penn to the Okehocking band of Lenape, established in 1703. Willistown Township, Chester County, Pennsylvania
Willistown Township is a township in Chester County, Pennsylvania. The population was 10,497 at the 2010 census. At the 1860 census, the population of Willistown was 1,521, and in 1980 it was 8,269. History Originally occupied by Lenape Native Americans, Willistown Township was part of the Welsh Tract surveyed for William Penn in 1684. The Holmes Map of 1681 is the first reference to Willistown, calling it "Willeston". In 1704, Willistown was organized as a township. A Native American reservation was located here and is memorialized by a monument. The first roads in Willistown Township were Native American trails. In 1710, three cowpaths were established here: Goshen, Sugartown, and Boot. Those roads are still in existence, under the same names. The West Chester Railroad, later to be a part of the Pennsylvania Railroad, had its eastern terminus at Malvern, in this township. The terminus was moved to Frazer in 1870. Middletown Township, Delaware County, Pennsylvania
Middletown Township is a township in Delaware County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 15,807 at the 2010 census. The Pennsylvania State University has an undergraduate satellite campus called Penn State Brandywine located in the north-central portion of the township. Originally established in 1686, Middletown Township adopted a Home Rule Charter in 1978. The township is governed by the council-manager system, a representative form of government in which the seven elected officials set policy for the township and the manager oversees the delivery of all public services and programs. The Goshenville Historic District is a national historic district, which is located in East Goshen Township, Chester County, Pennsylvania. It encompasses eleven contributing buildings, two contributing sites and two contributing structures in the crossroads village of Goshenville. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2000. History and architectural features The structures in this historic district date to the 18th and 19th centuries, and are reflective of a number of popular architectural styles including Greek Revival. They include residences, 1790s-era farmhouses, a tenant house that was bult circa 1750, the Goshen Friends Meetinghouse, which was erected in 1849, a Hicksite Meetinghouse (1855) and burial ground, a general store and post office that were built in 1800, and a blacksmith/wheelwright shop that was erected sometime around 1740. Sawmill
A sawmill (saw mill, saw-mill) or lumber mill is a facility where logs are cut into lumber. Modern sawmills use a motorized saw to cut logs lengthwise to make long pieces, and crosswise to length depending on standard or custom sizes (dimensional lumber). One-room School
One-room schools, or schoolhouses, were commonplace throughout rural portions of various countries, including Prussia, Norway, Sweden, the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, Ireland, and Spain.
