Oil For Drugs
The Oil for Drugs case is an Italian doping case against doctor Carlo Santuccione and a number of accomplices, started in 2003. He is accused of administering prohibited doping products to professional and amateur athletes, to enhance their performance as well as being involved in doping network across Italy. Timeline Death of amateur cyclist The catalyst to start the investigation was the death of an amateur cyclist in Italy that was suspicious. The death of this unnamed cyclist, which occurred around December 2002, led to an investigation by the Italian authorities. The State Prosecutor started and coordinated the investigation. Carlo Santuccione
Carlo Santuccione (23 October 1947 – 4 March 2017) was an Italian sports doctor who was also known as ''Ali the Chemist''. Santuccione worked with Francesco Conconi at the University of Ferrara in Italy at the ''Centro Studi Biomedici Applicati allo Sport'' or Biomedical Research Institute. History Santuccione was born in Cepagatti. During the 1990s, Santuccione worked with Conconi, the man that is said to have introduced Erythropoietin or EPO to the sport of cycling. Santuccione was suspended from acting as a physician from 1995 to 2000 by the Italian National Olympic Committee. Santuccione's name appeared in the case against Francesco Conconi; and he was subject to additional investigation in 2001. Giuseppe "Peppe" Gibilisco (; born 5 January 1979) is an Italian coach and former pole vaulter, who won the 2003 World Championships with a personal best of 5.90 m. He followed this with a bronze medal in the 2004 Olympics. He also competed in four-man bobsleigh in two race of the 2016–17 Bobsleigh World Cup finishing 25th and 28th. In competitive sports, doping is the use of banned athletic performance-enhancing drugs by athletic competitors as a way of cheating in sports. Mario Scirea (; born 7 August 1964) is an Italian former racing cyclist. Career Scirea was a professional for 15 years, riding with six different teams throughout his career. He rode in 29 Grand Tours between 1989 and 2004. He also rode in the team time trial event at the 1988 Summer Olympics. From 1996 until the end of his career in 2004, he rode with Mario Cipollini and was a key member of Cipollini's legendary sprint train. Scirea's only major victory was in 1987, when he won the World Time Trial Team Championships with teammates Roberto Fortunato, Eros Poli and Flavio Vanzella.
