Ohbijou was a Canadian indie pop band that was based in Toronto, Ontario. The music of Ohbijou draws on pop, folk and bluegrass influences. Casey Mecija
Casey Mecija is a multi-disciplinary artist, academic and musician. She is active in Toronto's music and cultural scene. Early life Casey Mecija was born and raised in Brantford, Ontario. She is of Filipino descent. Mecija has been based in Toronto, Ontario since moving there to attend university. Career Casey Mecija joined the Department of Communication & Media Studies at York University as an Assistant Professor in August 2020. She holds a PhD from the University of Toronto. Before arriving to academia, she was (and remains) involved in music scenes and multi-disciplinary arts. In the mid 2000s, Mecija contributed to turning her home on Bellwoods Avenue into a community hub for young artists and musicians. The Acorn (band)
The Acorn is the music project of singer-songwriter and musician Rolf-Carlos Klausener formed in Ottawa, Ontario in 2003. Their music spanned numerous genres, from art-folk and indie, to minimal electro and folk-rock, and members played with numerous other bands. Their songs have charted on Canadian campus charts and have been in rotation on CBC Radio 3 and The Verge. History Rolf Klausener, the principal songwriter, vocalist and guitarist, founded the band as a solo project, but was soon joined by guitarist Howie Tsui, bassist Jeff Debutte and drummer Jeffrey Malecki. They were quickly signed to Kelp Records, and produced the 2004 album ''The Pink Ghosts''. Reg Vermue is a Canadian indie rock singer from Guelph, Ontario. Born in Trenton, Ontario, he has recorded music under the stage names Gentleman Reg and Regina Gently. His musical style has been compared to Elliott Smith, Aimee Mann, The Smiths and Cat Power. He had a cameo role in the 2006 film ''Shortbus''. Most recently he began performing with a new band called Light Fires with James Bunton from the band Ohbijou, debuting songs in October 2010 at Pop Montreal. In Light Fires, Vermue performs in drag, adopting the alternate persona Regina Gently. Career His first album, ''The Theoretical Girl'', was released in 2000 on Three Gut Records. The Rural Alberta Advantage is a Canadian indie rock band that formed in 2005 in Toronto, Ontario. The band consists of Nils Edenloff on lead vocals and guitar, Amy Cole (Robin Hatch between September 2016 and January 2018) on keyboards, bass, and backing vocals, and Paul Banwatt on drums. They have released four albums and are signed to Paper Bag Records in Canada and Saddle Creek Records internationally. In 2011, they were nominated for a Polaris Music Prize.
