Ohangwena
Ohangwena is one of the fourteen regions of Namibia, its capital is Eenhana. Major settlements in the region are the towns Eenhana and Helao Nafidi aa well as the self-governed village of Okongo. , Ohangwena had 150,724 registered voters. Ohangwena is traversed by the northwesterly line of equal latitude and longitude. In the north, Ohangwena borders Angola: the Cunene Province, except for a small border with Cuando Cubango Province in the far northeast. Domestically, it borders the following regions: *Kavango West - East *Oshikoto - South *Oshana - South West *Omusati - West Economy and infrastructure The northern and western parts of the region are the most densely populated of this essentially subsistence agricultural region in which small scale mahangu cultivation and the keeping of cattle form the predominant activities. Helao Nafidi
Helao Nafidi is a town in Ohangwena Region in northern Namibia at the border to Angola. It has been established in 2004 as an amalgamation of several villages and settlements along the main road between Oshikango and Ohangwena which are both also part of the town. Helao Nafidi has 19,375 inhabitants. The town is separated into three urban areas, Oshikango in the north, bisected by the Namibian–Angolan border, and Omafo and Ohangwena south of it, with settlements and villages in the agricultural area between them. All the villages that have been combined to form the town ( Onhuno, Ohangwena, Omafo, Engela and Oshikango) still maintained their own village councils until the 2015 local authority election. Engela Constituency
Engela is an electoral constituency in the Ohangwena Region of northern Namibia. It had 21,341 inhabitants in 2004 and 13,743 registered voters . It is named after the settlement of Engela, today part of the town Helao Nafidi. Engela is home to one of the biggest hospitals in Namibia, Engela State Hospital. Politics As is common in all constituencies of former Ovamboland, Namibia's ruling SWAPO Party has dominated elections since independence. In the 2015 regional election SWAPO won by a landslide. Its candidate Jason Ndakunda gathered 5,372 votes, while the only opposition candidate, Laban Kanyiki of the Rally for Democracy and Progress (RDP), received 574 votes. Endola Constituency
Endola is an electoral constituency in the Ohangwena Region of Namibia, on the border of Angola. It had 36,659 inhabitants in 2004 and 14,100 registered voters . The district centre is the settlement of Endola. Ferdinand Ingashipola Shifidi became a councillor of the constituency in November 2014 and was re-elected in 2015 and in 2020. The constituency is hard-hit by the drought just like the rest of the northern region, but the situation was made worse by lack of drinking water for people and their animals as many water points were disconnected because of unpaid bills. The constituency is also faced with the issue of people who have no national documents. Endola is a flood-prone area with many water pans therefore, good roads are needed to avoid a situation where villages are totally cut off during the rainy season. Constituencies Of Namibia
Each of the 14 regions of Namibia is further subdivided into electoral constituencies. The size of the constituencies varies with the size and population of each region. There are currently 121 constituencies in Namibia. The most populous constituency according to the 2011 census was Rundu Urban in the Kavango West region with 63,431 people; the least populous was Okatyali in the Oshana region with 3,187 people. The administrative division of Namibia is tabled by ''Delimitation Commissions'' and accepted or declined by the National Assembly. In 1992, the First Delimitation Commission chaired by Judge President Johan Strydom determined the number of constituencies to be 95. Since then, every Delimitation Commission has increased this number to accommodate population growth. Okongo
Okongo is a village in the Ohangwena Region of northern Namibia. It is situated about east of Eenhana on the tarred road to Nkurenkuru. It is the district capital of Okongo Constituency. History Okongo was first settled by the San people in the 1900s, who, as a hunter-gatherer community, found the local abundance of wildlife and fruit attractive in the village. The name ''Okongo'' derives from the Oshiwambo word meaning: ''a place or a forest for hunting''. The San were eventually displaced in Okongo by the immigration of Bantu people. Today the commonly spoken language in the area is Oshiwambo and Christianity is the predominant religion. Economy and infrastructure Okongo has basic amenities: electricity, water and sanitation, a post office, basic supermarkets, and clothing outlets, as well as banking facilities. Eenhana
Eenhana (IPA: ) is the capital town of the Ohangwena Region, northern Namibia, on the border with Angola. It also used to be a mission station of the Finnish Missionary Society. Eenhana is situated in a subtropical forest. It is connected to the road network and has a well-developed infrastructure. Due to the proximity of Angola, many businesses are situated here. The town hosts an annual trade fair. The name ''Eenhana'' comes from the word ''calves'' in Oshikwanyama and is a reference to the calves that used to water at the small water pan where Eenhana is now located. History Eenhana was founded around New Year's Day 1930 by the Reverend Paulus Hamutenya. He was one of the first seven Ovambos to be ordained pastors in Oniipa, Ovamboland, in 1925 by the director of the Finnish Missionary Society, Matti Tarkkanen. Onhuno is a settlement in the Ohangwena Region of Namibia between Ongha and Ohangwena. Oshikoto is one of the fourteen regions of Namibia, named after Lake Otjikoto. Its capital is Omuthiya. Omusati
Omusati ( ng, Mopane, after the dominant tree in the area) is one of the fourteen regions of Namibia, its capital is Outapi. The towns of Okahao, Oshikuku and Ruacana as well as the self-governed village Tsandi are situated in this region. , Omusati had 148,834 registered voters. The region is home to the Ruacana Falls and the Omugulugwombashe heritage site, where the Namibian struggle for independence started in 1966.
