Oh Lucy! (2014 Film)
''Oh Lucy!'' is a short film directed by Atsuko Hirayanagi. The short film made its world premiere at the 2014 Cannes Film Festival receiving 2nd place in the Cinéfondation. Oh Lucy! has since become Academy Qualified by winning the Best International Short Film Award at the 2015 Flickerfest as well as the Short Film Jury Award: International Fiction at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival. Hirayanagi later made the film into a feature film version, released in 2017. Synopsis Setsuko, a 55-year-old single 'office lady' in Tokyo, is given a blonde wig and a new identity, "Lucy," by her young unconventional English instructor. "Lucy" awakens desires Setsuko never knew she had. When the instructor suddenly disappears, Setsuko must come to terms with what remains – herself. Atsuko Hirayanagi
is a Japanese-American filmmaker. Early life Born in Nagano Prefecture, Nagano to schoolteachers and raised in Chiba (city), Chiba, Japan, Hirayanagi moved to the Los Angeles area in the early 1990s as a high school exchange student. She graduated from San Francisco State University with a BA in theater arts. She went on to attend NYU Tisch School of the Arts and graduated with a MFA in film production. Career While in graduate school, her second year project, ''Mo Ikkai'', won the Grand Prix at the 2012 Short Shorts Film Festival in Asia. Her thesis short film, ''Oh Lucy! (2014 film), Oh Lucy!'', received a Tisch's First Prize Wasserman Award at the 2014 First Run Festival, and also won more than 25 awards around the globe, including prizes at Cannes Film Festival (2014), Sundance Film Festival (2015), and the Toronto International Film Festival (2014). 2014 Toronto International Film Festival
The 39th annual Toronto International Film Festival, the 39th event in the Toronto International Film Festival series, was held in Canada from 4–14 September 2014. The 67th Cannes Film Festival was held from 14 to 25 May 2014. New Zealand film director Jane Campion was the head of the jury for the main competition section. The Palme d'Or was awarded to the Turkish film '' Winter Sleep'' directed by Nuri Bilge Ceylan.
