Ogndal
Ogndal is a former municipality in what was the old Nord-Trøndelag county, Norway. The municipality existed from 1885 until its dissolution in 1964. The municipality included the whole Ogndalen valley and areas to the west, up to, but not including the town of Steinkjer in what is now the central and western part of the municipality of Steinkjer in Trøndelag county. Starting in 1917, the administrative center of Ogndal was actually located in the town of Steinkjer (even though that was not a part of Ogndal municipality). The main church for Ogndal, Skei Church, is located in the village of Skei in western Ogndal. Another church, Bodom Church, is located in the village of Bodom in the eastern part of the municipality. Sparbu (municipality)
Sparbu is a List of former municipalities of Norway, former municipality in the old Nord-Trøndelag county, Norway. The municipality existed from 1838 until its dissolution in 1964. It encompassed the southwestern part of what is now the municipality of Steinkjer, south of the Steinkjer (town), town of Steinkjer, east of the Børgin bay off the Trondheimsfjorden, and southwest of the Ogndalen valley. The administrative centre was the village of Sparbu. History The prestegjeld, parish of Sparbu was established as a municipality on 1 January 1838 (see formannskapsdistrikt). The eastern Ogndalen valley (population: 1,441) was separated from Sparbu on 1 January 1885 to form the new municipality of Ogndal, Skei. This left Sparbu with 2,842 residents. Bodom Church
Bodom Church ( no, Bodom kirke, formerly called ''Bodom kapell'') is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Steinkjer municipality in Trøndelag county, Norway. It is located in the village of Bodom in the upper Ogndalen valley, about east of the town of Steinkjer. It is one of the churches for the Ogndal parish which is part of the Stiklestad prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Nidaros. The white, wooden church was built in a long church style in 1905 using plans drawn up by the architect Søren Wiese Opsahl. The church seats about 120 people. History The chapel was initially built to serve the upper Ogndalen valley. David Kristian Bodom left money to the parish after his death to help fund the construction of the chapel. The new chapel was consecrated on 1 August 1905 by the Bishop Vilhelm Andreas Wexelsen. Later, the chapel was upgraded to be a full parish church. The building was extensively renovated in 1970. Skei Church
Skei Church ( no, Skei kirke) is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Steinkjer municipality in Trøndelag county, Norway. It is located in the village of Ogndal. It is the main church for the Ogndal parish which is part of the Stiklestad prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Nidaros. The white, wooden church was built in a long church style in 1664 using plans drawn up by an unknown architect. The church seats about 290 people. History It is not known exactly when the first church was built at Skei, but in existing historical records from 1490 "Skeide Sokn" is mentioned, and Olav Engelbrektsson has in its Domesday Book from 1533 referred to the farm "church Skeiid". Skei Church is mentioned in connection with the will of the Crown (the King's property) by the Reformation (1536). Stod, Norway
Stod is a former municipality in the old Nord-Trøndelag county in Norway. The municipality existed from 1838 until 1964. It originally encompassed the northern part of what is now the municipality of Steinkjer, stretching from the town of Steinkjer to the northeast, along the lake Snåsavatnet, to the municipal border with Snåsa. Over time, however, the municipality was reduced in size to just a fraction of its original size, leaving just the area between the Snåsavatnet in the north to the Ogndalen valley in the south. The administrative centre of the municipality was the village of Binde. The main church for Stod was For Church, located just south of the administrative center. The local sports team is Stod IL. Steinkjer (town)
Steinkjer is the administrative centre of the municipality of Steinkjer in Trøndelag county, Norway. The town is located at the northeastern end of the inner-most part of the Trondheimsfjorden, at the mouth of the river Steinkjerelva. In the eastern part of the town, the river of Figgja also flows into the fjord. The town is split in two by Steinkjerelva, creating the two traditional neighborhoods of Nordsia and Sørsia. Both the European route E6 highway and the Nordlandsbanen railway line run through the town, the latter serving the city at Steinkjer Station. Steinkjer Church and Egge Church are both located in the town. Prior to 1 January 2018, the town was the administrative centre of Nord-Trøndelag county, and since that day it has been the seat of the newly created Trøndelag county. Kvam is a former municipality in what was Nord-Trøndelag county in Norway. The municipality existed from 1909 until its dissolution in 1964. The municipality encompassed the areas north and west of the lake Snåsavatnet in what is now the municipality of Steinkjer in Trøndelag county. The administrative centre was the village of Kvam on the shore of the lake. Most of the population of Kvam municipality lived along the lake shore. Egge is a former municipality in what was Nord-Trøndelag county, Norway. The municipality existed from 1869 until 1964. It included the land just north of the town of Steinkjer in what is now the municipality of Steinkjer in Trøndelag county. List Of Former Municipalities Of Norway
This is a list of former municipalities of Norway, i.e. municipalities that no longer exist. When the local council system was introduced in Norway in 1837-38, the country had 392 municipalities. In 1958 the number had grown to a total of 744 rural municipalities, 64 city municipalities as well as a small number of small seaports with '' ladested'' status. A committee led by Nikolai Schei, formed in 1946 to examine the situation, proposed hundreds of mergers to reduce the number of municipalities and improve the quality of local administration. Most of the mergers were carried out, albeit to significant popular protest. As of January 2006 there are 431 municipalities in Norway, and there are plans for further mergers and political pressure to do so.
