The Ministry of Francophone Affairs (french: Ministère des Affaires francophones) in the Canadian province of Ontario is responsible for the provision of government services to Franco-Ontarian citizens and communities. It was originally founded as the Office of Francophone Affairs (french: Office des affaires francophones) in 1986 by the government of David Peterson, as an expansion of the former Office of the Government Coordinator of French-Language Services. It was upgraded to a full ministry in 2017 by the government of Kathleen Wynne. Following the 2018 Ontario general election, the new government of Doug Ford announced plans to demote the department from a ministry back down to an office, but was forced to backtrack in the face of community opposition. French Language

Franco-Ontarians (french: Franco-Ontariens or if female, sometimes known as ''Ontarois'' and ''Ontaroises'') are Francophone Canadians that reside in the province of Ontario. Most are French Canadians from Ontario. In 2016, the Government of Ontario calculated that there are approximately 622,415 francophones residing in the province. Marie-France Lalonde (born ) is a Franco-Ontarian politician in Ontario, Canada who has served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for the riding of Orléans as a member of the Liberal Party of Canada since 2019. She also served as the Liberal Member of Provincial Parliament (MPP) for the provincial riding of Orléans from 2014 until 2019, when she resigned her seat to run federally. John Russell Baird (born May 26, 1969) is a retired Canadian politician. He served as Minister of Foreign Affairs from 2011 to 2015 in the cabinet of Prime Minister Stephen Harper. He had been a member of the federal cabinet, in various positions, since 2006.
