Offaly County Hurling Team
The Offaly county hurling team represents Offaly in hurling and is governed by Offaly GAA, the county board of the Gaelic Athletic Association. The team competes in the Joe McDonagh Cup and the National Hurling League. Offaly's home ground is O'Connor Park, Tullamore. The team's manager is Johnny Kelly. The team last won the Leinster Senior Championship in 1995, the All-Ireland Senior Championship in 1998 and the National League in 1991. History After a scheme developed by the Gaelic Athletic Association in the 1970s to encourage the playing of hurling in non-traditional counties, Offaly was one of the first teams to benefit. As a result, the county won six Leinster Senior Hurling Championship titles in the 1980s, as well as its first All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship in 1981. The Health Service Executive (HSE) ( ga, Feidhmeannacht na Seirbhíse Sláinte) is the publicly funded healthcare system in Ireland, responsible for the provision of health and personal social services. It came into operation on 1 January 2005. The current Director-General is Stephen Mulvany on an interim basis, after Paul Reid stepped down in October 2022. Ben Conneely
Ben Conneely (born 1996) is an Irish hurler who plays for Offaly Championship club St Rynagh's and at inter-county level with the Offaly senior hurling team. He usually lines out as a centre-back. Career Born in Banagher, County Offaly, Conneely first came to hurling prominence at juvenile and underage levels with the St Rynagh's club. He eventually progressed onto the club's senior team and has since won two County Championship titles. Conneely first appeared on the inter-county scene during a two-year stint with the Offaly minor team before later lining out with the under-21 team. He made his first appearance with the Offaly senior hurling team during the 2016 Leinster Championship. Birr GAA
Birr GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association club located in the town of Birr in County Offaly, Ireland. The club is almost exclusively concerned with the game hurling and is one of the most successful hurling clubs in the country. While a number of teams represented Birr in the 1880s and 1890s, the current club was formally founded in 1909. St Brendan's Park, located on the south side of the town on Railway Road, is the home ground of the club. Ferbane GAA
Ferbane/Belmont GAA is a football club in the Gaelic Athletic Association located in Ferbane in County Offaly, Ireland, 13 miles from Birr. The Ferbane GAA field is located in the town of Ferbane on the Ballycumber Road. Ferbane play in the Offaly championship. Ferbane holds the record for the club with the longest continuous sponsorship deal in Gaelic football. Honours Football Ferbane enjoyed most of their success in the '80s and start of '90s where they won a 5 in a row of Offaly Senior Football Championship titles from 1986–90 and also a Leinster Senior Club Football Championship title in 1986 beating Portlaoise. Damien James Egan is a British Labour Party politician, and the second directly elected Mayor of Lewisham in Greater London. Early life Egan was born in Cork, Ireland, and raised in Bristol. Ciarán Burke
Ciarán Burke (born 1999) is an Irish hurler who plays for Offaly Championship club Ballinamere and at inter-county level with the Offaly senior hurling team. He usually lines out at full-back. Career Burke first came to hurling prominence with the combined Ballinamere/Durrow club at juvenile and underage levels, while simultaneously lining out as a schoolboy with Coláiste Choilm in Tullamore. He first appeared on the inter-county scene as a member of the Offaly minor team before later lining out with the under-20 side. Burke made his first appearance with the Offaly senior hurling team during the 2020 National League. He secured his first silverware during the 2021 season, when Offaly claimed the National League Division 2A and Christy Ring Cup titles. St Rynagh's GAA
St Rynagh's ( ga, Naomh Raghnach) is the name of two Gaelic Athletic Association sister clubs that encompass the towns of Cloghan and Banagher in County Offaly, in Ireland. The St Rynagh's Football Club is based in Cloghan and wear green and white hooped jerseys; the St Rynagh's Hurling Club is based in Banagher and wear blue and gold jerseys. Formed in 1961, to represent the parish of Cloghan and Banagher, the club gained almost immediate success - winning the senior hurling championship in 1965. The St Rynagh's Hurling Club went on to appear in three All-Ireland club hurling finals during the next 30 years. St Rynagh's has also supplied three of Offaly's four All-Ireland Hurling Championship winning captains, namely Padraig Horan, Martin Hanamy and Hubert Rigney.
