Odienné Department is a department of Kabadougou Region in Denguélé District, Ivory Coast. In 2021, its population was 156,730 and its seat is the settlement of Odienné. The sub-prefectures of the department are Bako, Bougousso, Dioulatièdougou, Odienné, and Tiémé. History Odienné Department was created in 1969 as one of the 24 new departments that were created to take the place of the six departments that were being abolished. It was created from territory that was formerly part of Nord Department. Using current boundaries as a reference, from 1969 to 2005 the department occupied the territory of Denguélé District. Sub-prefectures of Ivory Coast (french: sous-préfectures de Côte d'Ivoire) are the fourth-level administrative subdivisions of the country. There are currently 510 sub-prefectures. Folon Region is one of the 31 regions of Ivory Coast. Since its establishment in 2011, it has been one of two regions in Denguélé District. Denguélé Region
Denguélé Region (french: Région du Denguélé, ) is a defunct region of Ivory Coast. From 1997 to 2011, it was a first-level subdivision region. The region's capital was Odienné and its area was 20,997 km². Tiémé
Tiémé is a town in northwestern Ivory Coast. It is a sub-prefecture and commune of Odienné Department in Kabadougou Region, Denguélé District. It is situated between two major towns of the Denguélé: Odienné is located approximately west, and Madinani lies east. The French explorer René Caillié arrived in Tiémé on 3 August 1827, on the long journey that would take him to Timbuktu. Ill with malaria, scurvy and with a tropical ulcer on his foot, he was forced to remain for five months in the village. He gave a detailed account of his stay in his book ''Travels through Central Africa to Timbuctoo'', which was published in 1830. He spelled the name of the village as Timé.
