Odet
The Odet ( br, Oded) is a river in western France (Finistère department), which runs from Saint-Goazec (near Leuhan, in the Montagnes Noires of Brittany) into the Atlantic Ocean at Bénodet. The name of the town of Bénodet comes from the river; ''ben'' means ''river mouth'' in Breton. The river runs past, or through, the towns of Bénodet, Combrit, Plomelin, Quimper, Ergué-Gabéric, Briec-de-l'Odet, Langolen, Coray, Trégourez, Leuhan and Saint-Goazec. It is long and its basin area is . The river is popular with kayakers. In 2021, an article published in the Bulletin of the French Prehistoric Society reported that archaeologists had interpreted the Saint-Bélec slab, a 4,000-year-old stone rediscovered in 2014, as a three-dimensional representation of the Odet valley. This would make the Saint-Bélec slab the oldest known map of a territory in the world. Odet D'Aydie
Odet d'Aydie (c. 1425 – August 1490) was a knight from Béarn, Lord of Lescun. He held the titles of count of Comminges and governor of Guyenne at the end of the 15th century. He was the son of Bertrand d'Aydie and his first wife Marie Domin. Biography His career began in 1454 when he was appointed bailiff of Cotentin, a position he held until 1461. He was a confidant of Charles de France, Duke of Berry (1472), brother of King Louis XI. He took part in all the conspiracies against the king, including the League of the Public Weal (1465) and the Mad War. Thanks to the support of Charles, he became admiral in 1469. After the death of Charles of France in November 1472, he rallied on the side of King Louis XI. Odet De Coligny
Odet de Coligny (10 July 1517 – 21 March 1571) was a French aristocrat, cardinal, Bishop-elect of Beauvais, Peer of France, and member of the French Royal Council. From 1534 he was usually referred to as the Cardinal of Châtillon. Early life Odet was son of Gaspard I de Coligny and Louise de Montmorency, and brother of Pierre (1515–1534), Gaspard (1519–1572), and François, Seigneur d'Andelot (1521–1569). His birth at Châtillon-Coligny on 10 July 1517, his parents' second son, was recorded in his mother's book of hours. He and his brothers were home schooled, under the direction of Nicolas Bérauld of Orleans, a friend of Erasmus. Catholic career He occupied high church offices during this initial part of his career. Odet De Foix, Vicomte De Lautrec
Odet de Foix, Vicomte de Lautrec (1485 – 15 August 1528) was a French military leader. As Marshal of France, he commanded the campaign to conquer Naples, but died from the bubonic plague in 1528. Biography Odet was the son of Jean de Foix-Lautrec and Jeanne d'Aydie. He and his two brothers, the seigneur de Lescun and the seigneur de l'Esparre or Asparros, served Francis I of France as captains; and the influence of their sister, Françoise de Châteaubriant, who became the king's mistress, gained them high office. In 1516, as marshal of France, Odet was made governor-general of the Milanese duchy, but his severity made the French occupation insupportable. He was present at the Field of the Cloth of Gold being in Francis I's royal entourage. Odet arrived to resume the siege of Brescia, and on 26 May 1521, the Spanish and German garrison surrendered. Odet De Selve
Odet de Selve (c. 1504-1563) was a French diplomat. He was the son of Jean de Selve, first president at the parliaments of Rouen and Bordeaux, vice-chancellor of Milan, and ambassador of the king of France. In 1540 Odet was appointed councillor at the parlement of Paris and in 1542 at the grand council. In 1546, after the signature of the treaty of Ardres, he was sent on an embassy to England, reporting back on the last days of Henry VIII's reign. In 1550 he was sent to Venice, and afterwards to Rome, where he obtained the election of Pope Paul IV in 1555. A large number of Odet's diplomatic letters survive and are published. Odet De Turnèbe
Odet de Turnèbe (23 October 1552 – 20 July 1581) was a French people, French dramatist. Biography Odet de Turnèbe was born in Paris to Greek scholar Adrien Turnèbe. He received a solid education and was known, from an early age, for his intelligence and wit. After having served as a lawyer in the Parlement of Paris, he was chosen to become first president of the ''Cour des monnaies'', but he succumbed to a fever and died at the age of 28. Works He wrote a comedy in prose, ''Les Contents'' (written c. 1580, published after his death) which was largely inspired (like the works of his contemporary Pierre de Larivey) by contemporary Italian comedy. Odet Philippe
Odet Philippe was the first permanent, non-native settler on the Pinellas peninsula in what is now the state of Florida, acquiring of land in what is today Safety Harbor in 1842. He was a successful businessman who introduced cigar making and citrus to the Tampa Bay region. His descendants, including the McMullen and Booth families (for whom McMullen-Booth Road is named), are among the county’s most well known pioneer clans. Philippe was buried in Philippe Park – his former plantation – in 1869, but the exact location of the gravesite is unknown.
