Odd Strand
Odd Strand (21 August 1925 – 18 May 2008) was a Norway, Norwegian civil servant. He was born in Aure, Norway, Aure, but grew up in Trondheim. During the German occupation of Norway he was a member of Milorg. He later studied at the University of Oslo, graduating as cand.philol. and later Magister (degree), magister in political science in 1953. He remained director until 1993, when he reached the age limit. He was succeeded by Arne Simonsen. Obituary
An obituary ( obit for short) is an article about a recently deceased person. Newspapers often publish obituaries as news articles. Although obituaries tend to focus on positive aspects of the subject's life, this is not always the case. According to Nigel Farndale, the Obituaries Editor of ''The Times'': "Obits should be life affirming rather than gloomy, but they should also be opinionated, leaving the reader with a strong sense of whether the subject lived a good life or bad; whether they were right or wrong in the handling of their public affairs." Statskonsult
Statskonsult AS is a defunct Norwegian government-owned company that provided management consulting services related to government restructuring and reform. It was created in 1947 as the Rationalisation Office ( no, Rasjonaliseringskontoret), later the Directorate of Rationalisation. The name Statskonsult was taken into use in 1987. It was converted to a limited company on January 1, 2004, owned by the Norwegian Ministry of Government Administration and Reform with the intention of competing with other consulting companies within three years, but the change of government after the 2005 elections changed the plans. Arne Simonsen
Arne Simonsen (born 1941) is a Norwegian civil servant. He was born in Haugesund, and graduated as cand.mag. from the University of Bergen. He worked as a civil servant in Bergen municipality, the Norwegian Central Information Service, the Ministry of Church and Education, and the Norwegian Directorate of Immigration. From September 1992 to June 1993 he was a political advisor for the Minister of Social Affairs in the third cabinet Brundtland. In 1993 he was appointed director of the Norwegian Central Information Service (''Statens Informasjonstjeneste''), succeeding Odd Strand who had reached the age limit. Norwegian Government Agencies
The Government agencies of Norway are state controlled organizations that act independently to carry out the policies of the Government of Norway. The Government Ministries are relatively small and merely policy-making organizations, allowed to control agencies by policy decisions but not by direct orders. A Minister is explicitly prohibited from interfering with the day-to-day operation in an agency or the outcome in individual cases. While no minister is allowed to give orders to agencies personally, they are subject to decisions made by the Government. Also, the Minister is normally the instance of appeals of agencies decisions. Civil Servant
The civil service is a collective term for a sector of government composed mainly of career civil servants hired on professional merit rather than appointed or elected, whose institutional tenure typically survives transitions of political leadership. A civil servant, also known as a public servant, is a person employed in the public sector by a government department or agency for public sector undertakings.
