''Campylospermum serratum'' is a plant in the family Ochnaceae. The specific name (botany), specific epithet ' is from the Latin meaning "with teeth", referring to the leaf margin. It is found in Tropical Asia, from Sulawesi, Indonesia to Hainan, China, Zhōngguó/China and over to southwester India. ''Gomphia serrata'' was a previous common name for the species. The plant is used for it wood and its sap is used in folk medicine and in the past for teeth-blackening. Description The species grows as a shrub or medium-sized tree measuring up to tall with a diameter of up to . The scaly bark is dark grey-brown. The long leaves (10-17 x 2–5.5 cm) are elliptic, with a cuneate base and, as per the species epithet, small teeth on the margin. The flowers, growing in a few groups along terminal inflorescences, are yellow or cream-coloured. The yellowish-green berry-like fruit are kidney-shaped and measure up to 14x18mm in size. Folklore

Neeliyamma or Kottathamma (Mother of the grove) is the Hindu deities, deity here. According to the lore, a wise and beautiful woman, Neeli, turned in to a bloodthirsty demon after a local king betrayed and murdered her. But ever since a man took her for a compassionate mother, she turned into a motherly form. The Goddess came along with a priest of Kalikattu illam when he was returning from Kottiyoor. Goddess then asked to be installed in this jungle location where the leopards and cattle were seen living together in peace
