The Pacific Rugby League Championship is a rugby league tournament for national teams in Oceania. Its inaugural tournament was in 2019. Of the seven Oceanian team, six compete in two divisions of three, while a seventh tours a European Rugby League nation. History The tournament was created in 2019 with a two tiered format. The top tier (cup) consisted of Australia, New Zealand and Tonga and the second tier (shield) consisted of Fiji, Samoa and Papua New Guinea. The top team in the cup would be crowned champions while the top team in the shield would be promoted. Australia won the Cup in the inaugural season while Fiji won the shield and got promoted for the 2020 competition. No team would be relegated as Australia were going to go on a tour of England, leaving the tournament. For the 2020 edition, Cook Islands were schedule to take Fiji's place in the shield. Asia-Pacific Rugby League Confederation
The Asia-Pacific Rugby League Confederation (APRLC) is an umbrella body for nations playing the sport of rugby league football in the Southern Hemisphere. The Confederation aims to act as a counterpart to the Rugby League European Federation. History The formation of the APRLC was agreed at the Rugby League International Federation's annual general meeting in May 2010. The Federation was established with 7 founding full members. The APRLC is based at the New Zealand Rugby League's Auckland headquarters and will focus much of its efforts on developing the sport in the Pacific Islands. Under the new RLIF constitution agreed in 2010, the APRLC may appoint a delegate to the five-person International Federation executive. In 2011, the Asia-Pacific Rugby League Confederation met in a meeting in Auckland over December 5–6. The Samoa national rugby league team represents Samoa in rugby league football and has participated in international competition since 1986. Known as Western Samoa before 1997, the team is administered by Rugby League Samoa and are nicknamed Toa Samoa (English: ''Samoan Warriors''). The 2023 Tonga rugby league tour of England was a three-match tour by the Tonga national rugby league team to England in October and November 2023.
