Obuasi (Ghana Parliament Constituency)
The Obuasi Constituency was a constituency in the Obuasi Municipal District in the Ashanti Region of Ghana. In 2003, the Electoral Commission of Ghana, created 30 new constituencies in the country by dividing certain already existing ones. With the Obuasi constituency, it was split into the Obuasi and Akrofuom with Obuasi and Akrofuom as their headquarters. The Obuasi constituency was further split in 2011 into the Obuasi West and Obuasi East constituencies. Obuasi Municipal District
Obuasi Municipal District is one of the forty-three districts in Ashanti Region, Ghana. Originally it was formerly part of the then-larger Adansi West District in 1988, until part of the district was split off to create Obuasi Municipal District on 15 December 2003 (effectively 17 February 2004); whose remaining parts had been absorbed into parts of Adansi North District and Adansi South District respectively. Later, the eastern part of the district was split off to create Obuasi East District on 15 March 2018; thus the remaining part has been retained as Obuasi Municipal District. The municipality is the southern part of Ashanti Region and has Obuasi as its capital town. Resources The city is well known for its natural resource: gold. Justice Akuamoa Boateng
Justice Akuamoa Boateng was a Ghanaian civil servant and politician. He served as a deputy minister of state in the second republic. Education Justice had his secondary education at Mfantsipim School, Cape Coast. He continued at the Local Government Training School in Accra. He went on to Exeter University to study Government and Public Administration. He received his Post-graduate Diploma in 1956 from the Institute of Social Studies, the Hague, Holland, under the Netherlands Universities for International Co-operation (N.U.F.F.I.C.) fellowship. Career Justice returned to Ghana after his post graduate studies and was appointed clerk of Adansi Banka district council in 1957. He served in the council for two years and joined the Ghana Diplomatic Service (ministry of foreign/external affairs) where he worked for ten years (from 1959 to 1969). Obuasi West (Ghana Parliament Constituency)
Obuasi West is one of the constituencies represented in the Parliament of Ghana. It elects one Member of Parliament (MP) by the first past the post system of election Kweku Kwarteng is the member of parliament for the constituency. He was elected on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) won a majority of 31,101 votes out of 48,254 to become the MP. He had also represented the constituency in the 4th Republic parliament. National Democratic Congress (Ghana)
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) is a social democratic political party in Ghana, founded by Jerry Rawlings, who was Head of State of Ghana from 1981 to 1993 and the President of Ghana from 1993 to 2001. Following the formation of the Provisional National Defence Council (PNDC), which ruled Ghana following the military coup d'état on 31 December 1981, there was pressure from the international community to restore democracy. The NDC was formed as the ruling party ahead of elections in 1992, in which Rawlings was elected president, and in 1996 Rawlings was re-elected as the NDC candidate. Rawlings' second term ended in 2001. The NDC lost the presidency in the 2000 election, and it was not until the 2008 election, that they regained it with John Atta Mills as its candidate. People's National Convention (Ghana)
The People's National Convention is a political party in Ghana. After constitutional rule was restored back in Ghana in 1992 the party was formed by former President Hilla Limann based on ideals from the People's National Party (Ghana) which he led in the 1979 elections and won. Progress Party (Ghana)
The Progress Party (PP) was the ruling party in Ghana during the Second Republic (1969–1972). In the 29 August 1969 elections, the PP won 105 of the National Assembly's 140 seats. The party was co-founded in 1969 by Kofi Abrefa Busia, who was born as a Bono prince in the traditional kingdom of Wenchi, and by Lawyer Sylvester Kofi Williams, who was born as an Ahanta prince, and a descendant of the Ahanta King Badu Bonsu II. Ashanti Region
The Ashanti Region is located in southern part of Ghana and it is the third largest of 16 administrative regions, occupying a total land surface of or 10.2 percent of the total land area of Ghana. In terms of population, however, it is the most populated region with a population of 4,780,380 according to the 2011 census, accounting for 19.4% of Ghana's total population. The Ashanti Region is known for its major gold bar and cocoa production. The largest city and regional capital is Kumasi.
