Oberwil im Simmental is a municipality in the Frutigen-Niedersimmental administrative district in the canton of Bern in Switzerland. History Oberwil is first mentioned in 1278 as ''Oberwile''. During the Paleolithic era (20,000-10,000 BC) humans lived in several caves above the valley floor during the summer. The caves, Schnurenloch, Mamilchloch, Zwergliloch and Chniechälebalm, contained about 5,000 bones from the now extinct cave bear which the inhabitants had butchered. While no human remains were discovered, a number of stone tools were found. Today the tools and bones are at the Historical Museum of Bern while the caves can be visited with tour groups. These caves and other nearby rock shelters continued to be used through the Neolithic, the late Bronze Age and into the Middle Ages. Oberwil bei Büren is a municipality in the Seeland administrative district in the canton of Bern in Switzerland. History Oberwil bei Büren is first mentioned in 1236 as ''Oberwile''. Various neolithic, Bronze Age and Roman items have been found around the municipality. During the Middle Ages it was part of the Strassberg ''Herrschaft''. Oberwil-Lieli is a municipality in the district of Bremgarten in the canton of Aargau in Switzerland. History During the Roman era the municipal area was lightly settled. On the site of the current church there was a Roman farm. The ruins of an Alemanni settlement was also discovered in the municipality. Oberwil-Lieli is first mentioned in 1040 as ''Willare'' in a land grant to Einsiedeln Abbey. During the 12th Century, Engelberg and Muri Abbey were also given grants in the village. The rights to high and low justice were held by the Counts of Habsburg-Laufenburg. Gachnang
Gachnang is a municipality in the district of Frauenfeld in the canton of Thurgau in Switzerland. History Gachnang is first mentioned in 889 as ''Kachanang''. In the local dialect it has traditionally been known as ''Gochlingen''. In the Egelsee area (north of Niederwil) a number of significant artifacts from the Pfyn culture have been discovered. In 889 King Arnulf gave his follower Diethelm a manor house in Gachnang with ten dependent huts. From the 11th Century, Gachnang was a possession of the monastery of Reichenau. The Lords of Gachnang administered the village as a Ministerialis (unfree knights in the service of a feudal overlord) for first the Kyburg and later Reichenau Abbey. They ruled from the, now ruined, Alt-Gachnang Castle or from the Meierhof Meiersberg.
