Oberon Council is a local government area in the Central West region of New South Wales, Australia. The Mayor of Oberon Council is Cr. Mark Kellam, an independent politician. Shooters Hill (New South Wales)
Shooters Hill is a locality and mountain located south of Oberon, New South Wales. It is the fourth highest point in the Central Tablelands at , behind Mount Canobolas at , Mount Bindo at and Mount Trickett at . Shooters Hill is a common location for snowfalls in the Central Ranges. The tower location at is along Tower Road, accessible by turning off from a turnoff near the Shooters Hill locality area. The locality area (marked as Shooters Hill on most mapping software) is approximately . One can get good views over the area east of Shooters Hill at the tower location. Shooters Hill Post Office opened on 1 December 1889 and closed in 1978. Single transferable vote (STV) is a multi-winner electoral system in which voters cast a single vote in the form of a ranked-choice ballot. Oberon Railway Station
The Oberon railway station is a heritage-listed railway station and now museum located on the Oberon railway line in Oberon, in the Oberon Shire local government area of New South Wales, Australia. The site is also known as the Oberon Railway Station group. The property was added to the New South Wales State Heritage Register on 2 April 1999. Description The complex comprises a type 12 pre-cast concrete station building, erected in 1923; a pre-cast concrete water closet, erected in 1923; timber platform faces, completed in 1923; and signs and artefacts, completed in 1923. Malachi Gilmore Memorial Hall
The Malachi Gilmore Memorial Hall is a heritage-listed former cinema and dance hall and now multi-use arts space at 124 Oberon Street, Oberon, Oberon Shire, New South Wales, Australia. It was designed by Virgil Cizzio or Bolton Millane from the firm of Agabiti & Millane and built from 1936 to 1937 by H. A. Taylor. It was also known as the Magna Theatre during the 1950s. The property is privately owned. It was added to the New South Wales State Heritage Register on 5 December 2003. History The Malachi Gilmore Memorial Hall was built in 1936-1937 by the local Oberon Catholic Church on land donated by the Gilmore family, a prominent local pioneer family. Jenolan Caves Road
Jenolan Caves Road is a rural road in New South Wales, Australia, linking Great Western Highway at Hartley to Edith Road at Jenolan. The road is a part of Tourist Drive 1 linking the Blue Mountains to Bathurst via Oberon and Hampton. Route The road starts at the intersection of the Great Western Highway and Blackmans Creek Road, then travels south and crosses the Coxs River (Glenroy Bridge). From there it travels southwest and ascends Mount Blaxland, then continues to Hampton and to the Duckmaloi Road intersection. Next it winds south to the 5-Mile section which descends to the Grand Arch. It then goes through Jenolan Caves and leads to a parking lot at Jenolan Caves House. Burraga
Burraga is located in the Central Tablelands of New South Wales, 47 kilometres south west of Oberon and about south of Bathurst. It is within Oberon Shire. At the , Burraga had a population of 91. History Aboriginal and early settler history The area now known as Burraga lies on the traditional lands of the Wiradjuri people. The name Burraga is almost certainly a settler rendering of an Aboriginal language word. Burraga is also the name of the cadastral parish on the northern side of Thompson's Creek. Mining Copper was discovered around 1877 and was reported on by the inspector of mines in 1878. Mining commenced at the Thompsons Creek copper mine, but was hampered by poor management and under capitalisation, until the mine was purchased in 1879 by Lewis Lloyd, who was known as "the copper king".
