Oberliga West (1947–1963)
The Oberliga West ( en, Premier League West) was the highest level of the German football league system in the west of Germany from 1947 until the formation of the Bundesliga in 1963. It covered the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, the most populous state of Germany. Overview The league was created in 1947 as the highest level of football in the newly created state of North Rhine-Westphalia, then part of the Allied-occupied Germany, British occupation zone. Meidericher Spielverein 02 e. V. Duisburg, commonly known as simply MSV Duisburg (), is a Football in Germany, German association football club based in Duisburg, North Rhine-Westphalia. Regionalliga West (1963-74)
The Regionalliga West is a German semi-professional football division administered by the Western German Football Association based in Duisburg. It is one of the five German regional football associations. Being the single flight of the Western German state association, the Regionalliga is currently a level 4 division of the German football league system. It is one of five leagues at this level, together with the Regionalliga Bayern, Regionalliga Nordost, Regionalliga Nord and the Regionalliga Südwest. FC Viktoria Köln is a Football in Germany, German association football club from the city of Cologne in North Rhine-Westphalia, that competes in the 3. Liga. Wuppertaler SV is a German association football club located in Wuppertal, North Rhine-Westphalia. Alemannia Aachen () or ATSV Alemannia 1900 is a football in Germany, German football club from the western city of Aachen, North Rhine-Westphalia. A long term fixture of the country's 2. SpVgg Erkenschwick is a German football club based in Oer-Erkenschwick in North Rhine-Westphalia. History Founded as ''Sportverein Erkenschwick'' in 1916, they joined ''Emscher-Lippe-Spielverband'' to form ''Sportfreunde Erkenschwick'' in 1918, which in then merged with ''Turn- und Leichtathletikverein TV Erkenschwick'' in 1921 to form the sports club still known today as ''TuS 09 Erkenschwick''.
