Oatley Point Reserve
Oatley Point Reserve is a reserve located in the Sydney suburb of Oatley. It has panoramic views of Georges River and Oatley Bay, as well as some of the highest quality remnant coastal forest in the Municipality of Kogarah. It is home to a colony of sugar gliders, ringtailed possums and dusky antechinus. It has a rocky tip/point- a popular spot for fishing. The City of Kogarah was a local government area in the St George region of southern Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. The centre of the city is located south-west of the Sydney central business district and west of Botany Bay. Georges River
The Georges River, also known as Tucoerah River, is an intermediate tide-dominated drowned valley estuary, located to the south and west of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. The river travels for approximately in a north and then easterly direction to its mouth at Botany Bay, about from the Tasman Sea. Oatley Bay
Oatley Bay is a bay located in the Georges River Council, surrounded by the suburbs of Oatley, Hurstville Grove and Connells Point. The bay is part of the Georges River waterway. It is popular for cycling, walking, children's play, picnics and barbecues, and is also used for boating. The area around the bay is built-up. Reserves and parks in the bay include: Poulton Park, Redin Place Reserve, Oatley Point Reserve, Oatley Pleasure Grounds and Moore Reserve. The bay has a shallow depth, averaging about 1.5 metres, and is the end point for all run-off from the approximately 468-504 hectare Oatley Bay catchment. There is a ramp for access by boat. Sugar Glider
The sugar glider (''Petaurus breviceps'') is a small, omnivorous, arboreal, and nocturnal gliding possum belonging to the marsupial infraclass. The common name refers to its predilection for sugary foods such as sap and nectar and its ability to glide through the air, much like a flying squirrel. They have very similar habits and appearance to the flying squirrel, despite not being closely related—an example of convergent evolution. The scientific name, ''Petaurus breviceps'', translates from Latin as "short-headed rope-dancer", a reference to their canopy acrobatics. The sugar glider is characterised by its pair of gliding membranes, known as patagia, which extend from its forelegs to its hindlegs. Common Ringtail Possum
The common ringtail possum (''Pseudocheirus peregrinus'', Greek for "false hand" and Latin for "pilgrim" or "alien") is an Australian marsupial. It lives in a variety of habitats and eats a variety of leaves of both native and introduced plants, as well as flowers, fruits and sap. This possum also consumes a special type of faeces that is produced during the daytime when it is resting in a nest. This behaviour is called caecotrophy and is similar to that seen in rabbits. The dusky antechinus (''Antechinus swainsonii''), also known as Swainson's antechinus or the dusky marsupial mouse, is a species of small marsupial carnivore, a member of the family Dasyuridae. Oatley Pleasure Grounds
Oatley Pleasure Grounds is a bush park located in Oatley, New South Wales. The whole park is . History A private park was started by Harry Linmark before 1934. A band, weekly on Sunday, previously held entertaining shows at the park. Chinese New Year celebrations and picnics hosted by the Salvation Army were held in the park. A zoo was constructed in the park which held animals, such as kangaroos, monkeys, snakes and emus. Around the same period a wine bar was also constructed, but it was noisy and received complaints. Later in 1934, Kogarah Council purchased the park, extended it and renamed it. Oatley Park, New South Wales
Oatley Park is a reserve located on a promontory jutting into the Georges River in the southern Sydney suburb of Oatley. It is bounded by the Georges River, Lime Kiln Bay, and Jew Fish Bay. The park includes natural bushland, waterways, a children's playground, and an oval. The park is a popular place for picnics, recreational, and sporting activities. History There is evidence of Aboriginal activity in the park including rock carvings and shell middens. An area of 112 acres was dedicated for Public Recreation in the NSW Government Gazette on 25 March 1887, and the land was proclaimed on 29 May 1888 as a public park for recreation. It was initially known as Peakhurst Park, with Hurstville Council being appointed trustee in 1908. Even then it was recognised as being one of the few sizeable areas of waterfront land not privately owned.
