Oakleigh Railway Station
Oakleigh railway station is located on the Pakenham and Cranbourne lines in Victoria, Australia. It serves the south-eastern Melbourne suburb of Oakleigh, and it opened on 8 October 1877. History In 1877, a separate station was constructed at the city ( Up) end of the railway line from Gippsland, with the current station site developed by 1879, when the line from South Yarra was completed. The station later served as the eastern end of both the Outer Circle and the Rosstown lines. Since 1989, the station has featured over 40 plywood cut-outs on its walls and surrounding the station. These illustrate the life-stories of Oakleigh residents, who were aged between 15 and 70, when the murals were unveiled in September of that year. They underwent restoration in 2002. Public Transport Victoria (PTV) is the brand name for public transport in the Australian state of Victoria. It was the trading name of the Go Public Transport Development Authority (PTDA), a now-defunct statutory authority in Victoria, responsible for providing, coordinating, and promoting public transport. The PTV began operating on 2 April 2012, taking over many of the responsibilities previously exercised by the Director of Public Transport and the Department of Transport. It also took over the marketing of public transport in Victoria from Metlink and Viclink, as well as responsibility for the myki ticketing system, formerly handled by the Transport Ticketing Authority. Outer Circle Railway Line
The Outer Circle Railway was opened in stages in 1890 and 1891, as a steam-era suburban railway line, in Melbourne, Australia. It traversed much of the modern City of Boroondara, including the suburbs of (from north to south) Kew East, Camberwell, Burwood, Ashburton, and Malvern East. On a rail transport system, signalling control is the process by which control is exercised over train movements by way of railway signals and block systems to ensure that trains operate safely, over the correct route and to the proper timetable. Heidelberg Railway Station
Heidelberg railway station is located on the Hurstbridge line in Victoria, Australia. It serves the north-eastern Melbourne suburb of Heidelberg, and opened on 8 May 1888. The current island station design was officially opened on 1 September 1913. At one time, there was a goods yard opposite Platform 1. It made way for an extension of the commuter car park, although the goods shed still exists. Spotswood Railway Station
Spotswood railway station is located on the Werribee and Williamstown lines in Victoria, Australia. It serves the western Melbourne suburb of Spotswood, and opened on 1 December 1878 as Edom. It was renamed Bayswater on 1 September 1881, renamed Spottiswoode on 1 October 1881, and renamed Spotswood on 1 August 1905. History Spotswood station opened on 1 December 1878 and, like the suburb itself, was named after John Stewart Spottiswoode, a local resident who purchased land in the area in 1841. Over the years, a number of sidings were provided to businesses in the area. In 1914, a branch line was opened at the down end of the station to the Newport Power Station, in addition to a number of other sidings serving oil terminals in the area. A side platform (also known as a marginal platform or a single-face platform) is a platform positioned to the side of one or more railway tracks or guideways at a railway station, tram stop, or transitway. A station having dual side platforms, one for each direction of travel, is the basic design used for double-track railway lines (as opposed to, for instance, the island platform where a single platform lies between the tracks).
