Oakburn Park Speedway
Oakburn is a community in the Municipality of Shoal Lake, Manitoba, Canada. Oakburn is located at the junction of Highway #21 and #45, 14 km north of Shoal Lake. It began when the Canadian National Railway was built in 1906. Although it was named by Scottish settlers, the area boasts a strong Ukrainian heritage with many historical sites still well preserved. There is a Nursery School program available in the former Oakburn School. A Ukrainian Catholic and Ukrainian Orthodox Church are located in town and the Catholic Church also has a Parish Hall. The Oakburn Memorial Rink has two sheets of natural curling ice and a natural ice skating rink. The Municipality of Shoal Lake is a former rural municipality (RM) in the Canadian province of Manitoba. It was originally incorporated as a rural municipality on January 1, 2011. It ceased on January 1, 2015 as a result of its provincially mandated amalgamation with the RM of Strathclair to form the Rural Municipality of Yellowhead. Shoal Lake is a locality in the southwest of Manitoba, Canada. Originally incorporated as a town, Shoal Lake amalgamated with the Rural Municipality of Shoal Lake on January 1, 2011 to form the Municipality of Shoal Lake, which became the Rural Municipality of Yellowhead on January 1, 2015. History Shoal Lake was first settled in 1875 when the North-West Mounted Police established a barracks along the Carlton Trail at the south end of the lake. Riding Mountain National Park is a national park in Manitoba, Canada. The park is located within Treaty 2 Territory and sits atop the Manitoba Escarpment. Consisting of a protected area , the forested parkland stands in sharp contrast to the surrounding prairie farmland. It was designated a national park because it protects three different ecosystems that converge in the area; grasslands, upland boreal and eastern deciduous forests. Rossburn is an unincorporated urban community in the Rossburn Municipality, Manitoba. Prior to 1 January 2015, Rossburn was designated as a town. It is near Waywayseecappo First Nation. There is an elementary school and a collegiate school. Rossburn is also home to Brandon Wheat Kings player Chad Nychuk who was deemed the name “The Rossburn Rifle” after scoring multiple game winning goals as a 20 year old.
