Oak Hills Country Club
Oak Hills Country Club is a private golf club in the southern United States, located in San Antonio, Texas. Northwest of downtown, it was founded in 1921 as the "Alamo Country Club." Designed by renowned architect A.W. Tillinghast, the golf course opened for member play in 1922. Closed during the Great Depression, it reopened in 1946 as Oak Hills Country Club. Oak Hills has hosted a number of PGA Tour events. The inaugural Tour Championship in 1987 at Oak Hills was won by Tom Watson with a dramatic birdie on the 72nd hole; the 6-iron used for the approach shot hangs in the pro shop. Tour Championship
The Tour Championship (stylized as the TOUR Championship) is a golf tournament that is part of the PGA Tour. It has historically been one of the final events of the PGA Tour season; prior to 2007, its field consisted exclusively of the top 30 money leaders of the past PGA Tour season. Starting in 2007, it was the final event of the four-tournament FedEx Cup Playoffs, with eligibility determined by FedEx Cup points accumulated throughout the season. From 2019 onward, the FedEx Cup was reduced to three events, and the Tour Championship is now held in late August rather than mid-September. While originally followed by the PGA Tour Fall Series (for those competing for qualifying exemptions in the following season), a re-alignment of the PGA Tour's season schedule in 2013 made the Tour Championship the final event of the season. David Ogrin
David Ogrin (born December 31, 1957) is an American professional golfer. Ogrin was born and grew up in Waukegan, Illinois. He graduated from Waukegan East High School in 1976, then attended Texas A&M University, graduating in 1980 with a degree in economics. In 1980, he won the Illinois Open and the Illinois State Amateur tournament, something not done again until 2017. He turned professional in 1980. Ogrin played on the PGA Tour from 1983 to 1999. In over 500 starts, he had 32 top-10 finishes including a win at the 1996 LaCantera Texas Open. He also played on the Nationwide Tour where his best finish was a T-3 at the 1993 NIKE Connecticut Open Ogrin joined the Champions Tour in 2008. PGA Tour Champions (formerly the Senior PGA Tour and the Champions Tour) is a men's professional senior golf tour, administered as a branch of the PGA Tour. History and format The Senior PGA Championship, founded in 1937, was for many years the only high-profile tournament for golfers over 50. AT&T Championship
The San Antonio Championship was a golf tournament on the Champions Tour. It was played annually in October in San Antonio, Texas, and was the final full-field event of the Champions Tour season. AT&T was the main sponsor of the tournament from 2006 to 2014. The Canyons Course at TPC San Antonio took over as host beginning in 2011. It was previously played at the Oak Hills Country Club. Valero Texas Open
The Texas Open, known as the Valero Texas Open for sponsorship reasons, is a professional golf tournament on the PGA Tour, played near San Antonio, Texas. It dates back years to 1922, when it was first called the Texas Open; San Antonio-based Valero Energy Corporation took over naming rights in 2002. It is played at The Oaks Course at the TPC San Antonio, northeast of the city. The Valero Energy Foundation is the host organization for the Valero Texas Open. Thomas Sturges Watson (born September 4, 1949) is an American retired professional golfer on the PGA Tour Champions, formerly on the PGA Tour. In the 1970s and 1980s, Watson was one of the leading golf players in the world, winning eight major championships and heading the PGA Tour money list five times.
