Oad Swigart
Oadis Vaughn Swigart (February 13, 1915 – August 8, 1997) was a professional baseball player. He was a right-handed pitcher over parts of two seasons (1939–40) with the Pittsburgh Pirates. For his career, he compiled a 1–3 record, with a 4.44 earned run average, and 17 strikeouts in 46 innings pitched. Swigart served 5 years in the army during World War II. In baseball, the pitcher is the player who throws ("pitches") the baseball from the pitcher's mound toward the catcher to begin each play, with the goal of retiring a batter, who attempts to either make contact with the pitched ball or draw a walk. In the numbering system used to record defensive plays, the pitcher is assigned the number 1. The pitcher is often considered the most important player on the defensive side of the game, and as such is situated at the right end of the defensive spectrum.
