''OK Calculator'' is a demo collection from TV on the Radio which they self-released in 2002. The album's title alludes to Radiohead's album '' OK Computer''. Origins Reception In ''Magnet'', Bryan Bierman listed the album as a hidden gem and wrote, “Adebimpe’s voice alone makes up most of the tracks, and though the album’s rough sound takes some getting used to, this arrangement is surprisingly effective. Songs like ‘Yr God’ and ‘Aim To Please’ show off his soulful vocals, and you can hear some early signs of the later songwriting style the group would adapt. TV On The Radio
TV on the Radio (TVOTR) is an American rock band from Brooklyn, New York, formed in 2001. The band consists of Tunde Adebimpe (vocals, loops), David Andrew Sitek (guitars, keyboards, loops), Kyp Malone (vocals, guitars, bass, loops), and Jaleel Bunton (drums, bass, vocals, loops, guitars). Gerard Smith (bass, keyboards, loops) was a member of the band from 2005 until his death in 2011. Tunde Adebimpe
Babatunde Omoroga Adebimpe (born February 26, 1975) is an American musician, singer-songwriter, actor, director, and visual artist best known as the lead singer of the Brooklyn-based band TV on the Radio. Early life Adebimpe was born into a Nigerian immigrant family in the United States. Babatunde is a Yoruba name that means "father has returned". He is married to French cartoonist Domitille Collardey, with whom he has a son. He attended Shady Side Academy in Fox Chapel, Pennsylvania for high school, where he is still active on the board. His deceased father was a psychiatrist in Pittsburgh. Film and television career In 1998, Adebimpe worked as one of the initial animators of MTV's hyper-violent claymation program ''Celebrity Deathmatch''. Staring At The Sun (TV On The Radio Song)
"Staring at the Sun" is the debut single of American indie rock band TV on the Radio, released in 2004. The CD single is enhanced with two different quality QuickTime video files of the title track's music video. The single's B-sides, "Freeway" and "On a Train", were taken from their ''OK Calculator'' release. The song was listed at #41 on Pitchfork Media's "Top 500 songs of the 2000s". Band member Dave Sitek has said that the song was written over the course of two days. The song is recognizable by its heavy fuzz bass line, and rapidly strummed, distorted guitar single notes. Tunde Adebimpe and David Andrew Sitek were the only TV on the Radio members to play on this track, with guest appearances from Nick Zinner of Yeah Yeah Yeahs on guitar and Katrina Ford of Celebration (2000s band), Celebration on backing vocals. "Wild Is the Wind" is a song written by Dimitri Tiomkin and Ned Washington for the 1957 film ''Wild Is the Wind''. Johnny Mathis recorded the song for the film and released it as a single in November 1957. Mathis' version reached No. 22 on the ''Billboard'' chart. It was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Song in 1958, but lost to "All the Way" by Jimmy Van Heusen and Sammy Cahn from ''The Joker is Wild''. The song has been recorded many times, by many performers. The best known versions are by Nina Simone in 1966, and by David Bowie released in 1976/1981 as a tribute to Simone. Eunice Kathleen Waymon (February 21, 1933 – April 21, 2003), known professionally as Nina Simone (), was an American singer, songwriter, pianist, and civil rights activist. Her music spanned styles including classical, folk, gospel, blues, jazz, R&B, and pop. The sixth of eight children born from a poor family in Tryon, North Carolina, Simone initially aspired to be a concert pianist. With the help of a few supporters in her hometown, she enrolled in the Juilliard School of Music in New York City. Raymond Scott (born Harry Warnow; September 10, 1908 – February 8, 1994) was an American composer, band leader, pianist, record producer, and inventor of electronic instruments. Though Scott never scored cartoon soundtracks, his music is familiar to millions because Carl Stalling adapted it in over 120 Bugs Bunny, Porky Pig, Daffy Duck, and other Warner Bros. ''Looney Tunes'' and ''Merrie Melodies'' cartoons. ''OK Computer'' is the third studio album by the English rock band Radiohead, released in Japan on 21 May 1997 and in the UK on 16 June 1997. Radiohead self-produced the album with Nigel Godrich, an arrangement they have used for their subsequent albums.
