OKS Turkey
The OKS (Ortaöğretim Kurumları Giriş Sınavı) was the high school entrance examination in Turkey until 2007. It had 100 questions which were to be solved within 120 minutes and was mandatory for getting a place in a good high school in Turkey. In the examination, students solved: *25 Turkish language questions (Grammar & Paragraph), *25 Math questions (Math & Geometry), *25 Science questions (Physics, Chemistry & Biology), *25 Social studies questions (History, Geography & Religion (5)*) **''Students who did not take religion could choose instead to solve five additional geography and history questions'' Abolishment The exam was abolished in 2007 by the Turkish Ministry of Education and was replaced by the SBS exams, spread out over three years. YÖS Exam
The YÖS Examination ( tr, Yabancı Uyruklu Öğrenci Sınavı) is an entrance examination designed for foreign students who wish to enroll in higher education institutions in Turkey. Universities conduct their own versions of the exam. The test is open only for students wishing to enroll in undergraduate programs. Enrolled students who seek a transfer as well as those who wish to follow postgraduate programs apply directly to the institutions of their choice. Education in Turkey is governed by a national system which was established in accordance with the Atatürk's Reforms. It is a state-supervised system designed to produce a skillful professional class for the social and economic institutes of the nation. Compulsory education lasts 12 years. Primary and secondary education is financed by the state and free of charge in public schools, between the ages of 6 and 19. Secondary or high school education is not mandatory but required in order to then progress to universities. Turkey has over 200 universities as of 2022. ÖSYS, after which high school graduates are assigned to university according to their performance. Turkey has 97% of primary school enrollment among all eligible children as of 2019.
