Oxfordshire (UK Parliament Constituency)
Oxfordshire was a county constituency of the House of Commons of the Parliament of England then of the Parliament of Great Britain from 1707 to 1800 and of the Parliament of the United Kingdom from 1801 to 1885. It was represented by two Members of Parliament. In 1832 this was increased to three Members of Parliament. The constituency was abolished in 1885, being split into three single member divisions. The bitterly contested Oxfordshire election of 1754 was the main inspiration for Hogarth's famous series of paintings and engravings, '' The Election''. Boundaries The constituency comprised the whole of the historic county of Oxfordshire, in the northern part of South East England. Banbury, also informally known as Banbury and North Oxfordshire, is a Constituencies of the Parliament of the United Kingdom, constituency in Oxfordshire created in 1553 and represented in the House of Commons of the United Kingdom, House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom, UK Parliament since 2015 by Victoria Prentis of the Conservative Party (UK), Conservative Party. Oxford was a parliamentary constituency in the United Kingdom. It comprised the city of Oxford in the county of Oxfordshire, and elected two members of parliament from its creation in 1295 until 1885 when its representation was reduced to one member by the Redistribution of Seats Act 1885. During the 1960s and 1970s, Oxford was a marginal seat. Boundaries and boundary changes 1918–1950: The County Borough of Oxford. Sir Thomas Blount (died 1400) was a supporter of Richard II of England. Background Blount was the eldest son of Sir Thomas Blount (c.1321-c.1407) and his wife, Joan Hakluyt. He married in 1387 the widow of the former treasurer of the Exchequer, Sir Hugh Segrave. A second marriage gained him land in Wiltshire and Hampshire and allowed him to represent Wiltshire in Parliament in 1397 with Sir Henry Greene. Life at Court At Richard II's coronation, Sir Thomas was deputy for John Hastings, earl of Pembroke, in the office of king's 'naperer,' or keeper of his linen, and he was in close attendance on Richard II throughout his reign. Richard Abberbury The Elder
Sir Richard Abberbury the Elder (1331–1399) was the Chamberlain to Anne of Bohemia, Queen to King Richard II of England. Richard was the son of Thomas Abberbury of Donnington in Berkshire and Steeple Aston in Oxfordshire. and inherited the Donnington estate from him in 1353. He married Agnes, the daughter of Chief Justice Sir William Shareshull and was knighted in 1359 by the Black Prince. They had two sons, including Richard Abberbury the Younger.
