Owain Williams (politician)
Owain Williams is the leader of Llais Gwynedd, a regionalist political party in Gwynedd, north Wales, and councillor who previously represented the Clynnog Fawr ward for Gwynedd Council. He is a fervent nationalist committed to an independent Wales. In the 1960s, he was imprisoned twice for bombing the site of the future Llyn Celyn reservoir but later turned to the democratic route, becoming the chairman of the Independent Wales Party as well as a member of, at different times, both the Welsh Labour Party and Plaid Cymru. In May 2008 he was elected chairman of Llais Gwynedd after their emergence following the 2008 Welsh local elections. In the summer of 2009, he was reported to the authorities for leaving the bodies of several dead sheep to rot in his fields. Williams' story inspired the 2021 film ''The Welshman.'' Owain Llewelyn Williams (1964 – 12 September 2021) was a Welsh rugby union player who played as a back row forward for Glamorgan Wanderers, Bridgend, and Cardiff, and the national team. He was the brother of Gareth Williams. He played for Cardiff 221 times, and in the course of his career was in two Welsh Cup-winning sides and also appeared in the inaugural Heineken Cup. He had four children, two of whom, Teddy and Henri, are also rugby players. Owain Fôn Williams (; born 17 March 1987) is a Welsh professional football coach and former professional footballer who is currently the goalkeeping coach for EFL League One side Fleetwood Town. Williams played as a goalkeeper making 271 appearances in the English Football League, including 161 for Tranmere Rovers, also representing Crewe Alexandra, Stockport County, Bury, and Rochdale. He has since played for Scottish clubs Inverness Caledonian Thistle, Hamilton Academical and Dunfermline Athletic, and in the United States for Indy Eleven. Formerly a Welsh youth international, he was first called up to the senior Wales team in 2009, finally making his debut in 2015.
