Owain ap Llywelyn ab y Moel (fl. 1470–1500) was a Welsh language poet from Powys. Powys (; ) is a Local government in Wales#Principal areas, county and Preserved counties of Wales, preserved county in Wales. It is named after the Kingdom of Powys which was a Welsh succession of states, successor state, petty kingdom and principality that emerged during the Middle Ages following the end of Roman rule in Britain. Llywelyn Ab Y Moel
Llywelyn ab y Moel (died 1440) was a Welsh-language poet and rebel, and father of the poet Owain ap Llywelyn ab y Moel. Life Llywelyn was raised in Llanwnnog, a village in Arwystli, Powys. He was also connected through his maternal relatives to the parish of Meifod. He fought in the revolt of Owain Glyndŵr, and then lived as a rebel outlaw. His poetry contains attacks on the English, and descriptions of life as an outlaw. However, after the failure of Glyndŵr's rebellion, Llywelyn appears to have changed his allegiance; Sir William ap Thomas is later attested as his patron. Later in his life, Llywelyn became religious, and was ultimately buried at Strata Marcella. Works In his early career, Llywelyn studied under a poet named Rhys ap Dafydd ab Iorwerth. Llywelyn is noted for his bardic debate between himself and Rhys Goch Eryri on the nature and origin of the poetic muse, or awen. Cywydd
The cywydd (; plural ) is one of the most important metrical forms in traditional Welsh poetry (cerdd dafod). There are a variety of forms of the cywydd, but the word on its own is generally used to refer to the ("long-lined couplet") as it is by far the most common type. The first recorded examples of the cywydd date from the early 14th century, when it is believed to have been developed. This was the favourite metre of the Poets of the Nobility, the poets working from the fourteenth to the seventeenth centuries, and it is still used today. The cywydd consists of a series of seven-syllable lines in rhyming couplets, with all lines written in cynghanedd. One of the lines must finish with a stressed syllable, while the other must finish with an unstressed syllable. The rhyme may vary from couplet to couplet, or may remain the same. Bacheldre
Bacheldre ( cy, Bachelldref or ''Bachelldre'') is a small settlement in Powys, Wales. It is near the A489 road and is southeast of the town of Montgomery. Location The parish of Churchstoke is bisected by Offa's Dyke. Part of the parish lies in England and part of it in Wales, but the Dyke delineates only a segment of the boundary between England and Wales, which boundary also separates the counties of Powys and Shropshire. In this region of the Welsh Marches, there is a significant incursion of Wales east of Offa's Dyke, an area which includes Corndon Hill and the Churchstoke valley. The borderland parish of Church Stoke comprises nine areas, known as ''townships'', one of which is Bacheldre, which lay in the former county of Montgomeryshire.
