Over The Overlords
''Over the Overlords'' is the sixth studio album by Chicago punk band Naked Raygun. It was released on August 2, 2021, on Wax Trax! Records. It is their first album in 31 years. The album features an instrumental that appears in the first and last tracks, and occasionally as interludes throughout the album, mostly with a repeating drum line. Background The album is notable for being the last release to feature bassist Pierre Kezdy, due to his death in October 2020. Although the album was released after Pierre's death, and also featured bassist Fritz Doreza, Pierre had recorded for the album prior to his death. The album is also notable for being the first Naked Raygun album since 1990's ''Raygun...Naked Raygun'', and the first release of new material since the series of singles the band released in 2009, 2010, and 2011. Naked Raygun
Naked Raygun was one of the first, one of the longest running, and one of the most recognized Chicago punk bands. They are considered by many to be the most important band in the history of Chicago punk rock and credited with creating “the Chicago Sound.” Raygun was active (in various lineups) from 1980 to 1992, along with reunion shows in 1997. In late 2006 Raygun reformed to play Riot Fest and is still active today. Over the years Naked Raygun has 6 studio full length releases, multiple EPs and singles, and a DVD. After the passing of Pierre Kezdy in 2020, the current lineup consists of original member Jeff Pezzati, Eric Spicer, Bill Stephens, and Fritz Doreza. Wax Trax! Records
Wax Trax! Records is an American independent record label based in Chicago. It began as a record shop in Denver, Colorado, opened by life partners Jim Nash and Dannie Flesher, who sold the store in 1978 and moved to Chicago. In November of that year, they opened a store under the same name in the Lincoln Park neighborhood. During the 1980s and 1990s, the accompanying record label became a presence on the new wave and punk rock scenes in the city, and an outlet for European bands. The label was purchased in 1992 by TVT Records and was discontinued in 2001. In 2014, it was re-established by Julia Nash, daughter of co-founder Jim Nash. Richard Giraldi of the ''Chicago Sun-Times'' wrote, "As important as Chess Records was to blues and soul music, Chicago's Wax Trax imprint was just as significant to the punk rock, new wave and industrial genres." The Bollweevils
The Bollweevils is a punk band from Chicago. The members consist of Daryl Wilson on vocals, Sensitive Pete on bass, Ken Fitzner ("Ken Weevil") on guitar, and Pete Mumford on drums. Former members include founding bass player, Bob Skwerski, Brian Czarnik (who played simultaneously in Oblivion) on drums later replaced by Brett Friesen (who played simultaneously in Houseboy). They formed during the Naked Raygun era which was where the band members met and also, for whom they eventually opened. The group released a number of albums on Dr. Strange Records; though, their first, minor releases were on Underdog Records(Chicago). The group's current record label, Go Deaf Records LLC, is owned and operated by the band. In the summer of 1993, the band went on a cross-country road tour with the Smoking Popes and 88 Fingers Louie.
