Over The Pop
''Over the Pop'' is the third studio album by Italian pop singer Sabrina. It was released in 1991. Background and development In 1990, Sabrina was the hostess of the daily morning TV show ''Ricomincio da 2'' with Raffaella Carrà on Rai Due, and appeared on the popular music show Festivalbar with a new single called " Yeah Yeah". 1991 marked a turning point in Sabrina's career: she performed a duet with Italian singer Jo Squillo in singing "Siamo Donne", her first release in the Italian language. They performed together at 1991's Sanremo Music Festival to much acclaim. Sabrina's third studio album, ''Over the Pop'', was released that same year, and for the first time she was allowed to co-write and produce some of the songs. It was clear that Sabrina's will to mature as an artist were emerging, and this desire for independence led to conflict with her management. John Robert Waughman, better known as Johnny Warman, is an English singer-songwriter, best known for his 1981 album, ''Walking Into Mirrors'' and the hit single "Screaming Jets". Early life Warman was born in Bethnal Green, London, England, and he moved to Hackney, London, Hackney at the age of seven. In Warman's home there was always music as his mother and father both sang. Richard Lynn Carpenter (born October 15, 1946) is an American pianist, singer, songwriter, record producer, and music arranger, who formed half of the sibling duo the Carpenters alongside his younger sister Karen. He had numerous roles in the Carpenters, including record producer, arranger, pianist, keyboardist, and song writer, as well as joining with Karen on harmony vocals. Reginald Maurice Ball (12 June 1941 – 4 February 2013), known professionally as Reg Presley, was an English singer and songwriter. He was the lead singer with the 1960s rock and roll band the Troggs, whose hits included " Wild Thing" (#1 on the Hot 100 on 30 July – 6 August 1966) and "With a Girl Like You" (#1 on the UK Official Singles Chart on 4–11 August 1966). "With a Girl Like You" is a song by English rock band the Troggs, released as a single in July 1966. On the back of the success of " Wild Thing", "With a Girl Like You" topped the charts in the UK, and was similarly a success across Europe, but did not fare as well in the US, only peaking at number 29 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100. Background and release "With a Girl Like You" was written by the Troggs' lead vocalist Reg Presley whilst he was a bricklayer. He took inspiration from the vocals in "Barbara Ann", which became a hit for the Beach Boys in early 1966. "With a Girl Like You" was recorded at Olympic Studios at the same time as their previous single "Wild Thing". Both songs were recorded in two takes as they only had a short amount of recording time, as manager Larry Page got them into the studio at the end of a session for his orchestra. "Yesterday Once More", written by Richard Carpenter and John Bettis, is a hit song by the Carpenters from their 1973 album '' Now & Then''. Thematically the song concerns reminiscing about songs of a generation gone by. It segues into a long medley, consisting of eight covers of 1960s tunes incorporated into a faux oldies radio program. The work takes up the entire B-side of the album. The single version of the song peaked at number 2 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100 chart, kept from the number 1 spot by " Bad, Bad Leroy Brown" by Jim Croce.
