Up Above My Head
"Up Above My Head" is a gospel song of traditional origin, first recorded in 1941 (as "Above My Head I Hear Music In The Air") by The Southern Sons, a vocal group formed by William Langford of the Golden Gate Quartet. In the version that is now the best-known, it was recorded in 1947 by Sister Rosetta Tharpe and Marie Knight as a duo. Background The spiritual "Over My Head", apparently dating from the 19th century but of unknown authorship, contains many of the same lines as "Up Above My Head" – "Over my head / I hear music in the air../ There must be a God somewhere" – and may be presumed to be its origin. Civil rights leader Bernice Johnson Reagon changed the traditional words of the song in 1961, to "Over my head / I see freedom in the air...". In 1995, the National Association for Music Education (then known as the Music Educators National Conference) published a list of songs that "every American should know", which included "Over My Head". Sister Rosetta Thar ...

''The Modern Dance'' is the debut album by American rock music, rock band Pere Ubu. It was released in January 1978 by record label Blank. A 5.1 surround sound version was released as the DVD-Audio side of a DualDisc in 2005. Critical reception ''The Modern Dance'' has been critically acclaimed. Reviewing for ''The Village Voice'' in 1978, Robert Christgau wrote that "even though there's too much ''Radio Ethiopia'' and not enough 'Redondo Beach (song), Redondo Beach,'" he would be "listening through the failed stuff—the highs are worth it." In ''Christgau's Record Guide: Rock Albums of the Seventies'' (1981), he reaffirmed that "the highs are worth it, and the failed stuff ain't bad" in his revised review. Ken Tucker, writing in ''Rolling Stone'', called it vivid and exhilarating, even if "harsh and willfully ugly". ''NME'' named ''The Modern Dance'' the 11th best album of 1978. ''Fact (UK magazine), Fact'' placed the record at number 31 on its list of the 100 best albums of ...

All About Chemistry
''All About Chemistry'' is the third and most recent studio album by American rock band Semisonic, released on March 13, 2001, through MCA Records. With this release, the band failed, at least in America, to capitalize on the momentum it had generated with the song " Closing Time" from their previous album, '' Feeling Strangely Fine''. This had a softer edge than ''Feeling Strangely Fine'' and was not as popular with the fans. By 2002, the album had sold 58,000 copies, and its poor sales partially led to the band going on an unofficial hiatus. However, it has a five star rating by ''Q Magazine''. The track "Chemistry" was featured on the soundtrack for ''40 Days and 40 Nights''. The song "One True Love" was co-written by the band's singer/guitarist, Dan Wilson and music legend Carole King. The song "Get a Grip" is an ode to masturbation. The title track was included on the album "Nolee Mix" which was released to promote the My Scene dolls. The special edition of the album featu ...
